July 21st, 2005 - WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, M.D. (R-TN) today announced that he would introduce the Support Our Scouts Act of 2005 as an amendment to the Department of Defense authorization bill. The amendment will ensure that the Boy Scouts of America are treated fairly by guaranteeing their right to equal access to public facilities, forums, and programs. This provision addresses attempts to exclude the Boy Scouts from such facilities at the federal, state, and local levels, and legal moves by groups to proscribe longstanding Defense Department support to the Scouts.
The following is a statement Senator Frist delivered this morning on the Senate floor:
I plan to offer an amendment to the Defense bill to preserve the long-standing relationship between the Department of Defense and the Boy Scouts of America. This legislation is necessary to press back on lawsuits that seek to sever the ties between our military, which has hosted the Boy Scout Jamboree on its bases. Americas youth can learn so much from the men and women in uniform love of country, commitment to values, sacrifice for others.

Bump to sign after returniing from Cub Scout family camp!
Great idea to push this legislation for two reasons.
First, it is absolutely the right thing to do.
Second, the liberal Senators, especially 2008 Dem Presidential hopefuls (Hillary et al), will have to either vote against the Boy Scouts or alienate their radical supporters by supporting the measure.

I like reason number one.
Have fun at the Jamboree all.
I seem to recall that Frist was an Eagle Scout, himself. I could be wrong.
Holy cow! Frist has grown a pair? Kick @$$! Keep it up!!
For God and Country Forever...Surrender to the ACLU Never!
What do you mean WTF?
I think you are right...I belive he was a Scout. Many of the senators were. I see this passing.
This is a priority? It couldn't be tacked on to another Bill?
I think he may be trying to position himself for 08, however, and regardless...I applaud this with heavy clapping!
Actually if you go read the link...it is tacked onto another bill.
