China's new destroyers feature Aegis tech copied from U.S.

China's military put its new guided missile destroyers on display last week, disclosing its two new warships that are equipped with Aegis-type battle management systems.

Two new Luyang II guided missile destroyers are part of China's naval builduup.

The two Luyang II guided missile destroyers are Beijing's first Aegis-type ships. The ships are currently undergoing sea trials. U.S. intelligence officials say China stole the technology for the Aegis battle management system by setting up a front company in the United States that became a subcontractor for the Aegis system manufacturer.

The Chinese also showed two other new guided missile destroyers, known as Luyang I. Both types of destroyers are equipped with Russian military equipment and weapons, including missiles, as well as indigenous Chinese anti-ship missiles.

The four warships are part of China's military buildup that U.S. officials say is designed for more than just a Taiwan conflict. The Chinese are building a deep-water navy able to project power, especially against the United States

We have Aircraft Carrier fleets, all of theh planes on there are superior in their role to ANYTHING the Chinese have. our subs are better along with their crews.
------
Our high-value assets remain the Boomers and our carriers. Don't be suprised to see a major U.S. counter-buildup!

Clinton should be brought up on charges of treason.

The above unexcerpted portion of the article says that they set up a front company in the US that became a subcontractor. Why would they setup in the US instead of Russia if they were copying a Soviet based AEGIS? Does a US contractor supply both?

Why not when Clinton sold it to them for campaign cash. Wonder what Hillary will give them? Is there anything left that hasn't been plundered by the Clinton administration?

I really hope this is not the beginning of an Arms race. It was way to costly to outspend the Soviet Union into oblivion

I don't know about a huge counter build up, the Chinese still have a long way to go before they could even touch a carrier, much less 2 or 3...

however, I would LOVE to see the Naval variant of the Raptor out there as soon as possible....

And Clinton can take credit for the booming economy of the 90s. Congress? Who are they?

Hear that one about once a week.

"U.S. officials say is designed for more than just a Taiwan conflict. The Chinese are building a deep-water navy able to project power, especially against the United States"

This isn't just Clinton's mess, President Bush's economic trade policywith China is just as dangerous because it provides them with the money to build their military and their international economic muscle.

Why we trade with these communist thugs and help strengthen their economy and their military capability is beyond my understanding.

Once they gain enough nukes to force a nuclear standoff with the U.S., a conventional war with them could be disasterous.

If a similar event happened in 1942, a massive investigation would ensue that would end up with those responsible swinging from a rope.

Interestingly, that is how China plans to become a super power and economy -- by stealing it.

"This is scary stuff."

Yep... And whether it is the Repubs or Dems who are in office, wouldn't it be nice to have a President and Congress that had the guts to realize the threat that China will eventually become to the US, and then actually do something about it?

Just another page in The Clinton Legacy

I understand that Russia and Israel are currently the largest suppliers of military equipment and military technology to China.

Gee Mr Clinton, how did they get THAT technology? Maybe

Maybe it also was Rumsfeld's Naval Aviation Heroes that landed their P-3 spyplane in China ....

I think Israel has been told to stop and I believe they will...

For Russia, China is a source of MONEY, something they need more than anything right now. Eventually it will come back to bite them right in the @$$ too if you want to know what I think....

This article is awfully light on hard facts. An Aegis-type BMS could mean a whole lot of different things...Aegis is a networked collection of sensors, communications and weapons platforms and is quite complex. Being a system and not a specific device means only certain parts like the network architecture or some of the sensor technology could have been what was stolen, not necessarily the whole system. That hardly makes it comparable to our Aegis systems which have matured over the last 20 years and are most likely far more capable than theirs is.

Besides, didn't these same U.S. Intelligence officials tell us WMD in Iraq was a "slam dunk"? Hmmph...

I haven't seen anything that says they have stopped selling Satellite and military technology to China. If you have a link, I'd like to see it. Thanks.
