Judge Removes Redistricting Reform Initiative from California Ballot

According to KABC AM 790 radio news, a judge just removed Proposition 77, the Redistricting Reform/Anti-Gerrymandering Initiative, from the ballot for the California Special Election to be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2005. This is the Redistricting Reform measure supported by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Proposition 77, the Redistricting Reform/Anti-Gerrymandering Initiative, was the single most important initiative on the ballot to reduce fraud, waste, and abuse by California state government.

The reason cited was a violation of the California Constitution by using two different versions of the initiative in the qualifying process. That is, two different versions of the initiative appeared on different signature petition forms used to gather signatures of registered voters.

This is a major blow to California voters and tax payers who need relief from the massive political corruption and waste of tax dollars resulting from safe, non-competitive gerrymandered election districts that result when the incumbent politicians redraw their election district boundary lines.

The outcomes of the general election for most of California's 80 State Assembly seats, 20 of the 40 State Senate seats, and 53 Congressional seats are determined by the Primary Election, before the General Election, due to gerrymandered election district boundary lines. Also, the Democrat majority party ensures itself an artificially large super-majority due to gerrymandering.

Thus, California has suffered election theft every two years for many decades, and all voters of all parties suffer from nonresponsive entrenched politicians who instead cater to lobbyists and other special interests.

Safe gerrymandered election districts have allowed the Democrat super-majority in the California Legislature to ignore the 63 percent of the voters who voted for Proposition 22, defining marriage to be between one man and one woman. The Democrats legislators have enacted multiple laws giving the rights and responsibilities of marriage to same sex "domestic partners".

The money and time spent to qualify the initiative is lost.

The voters can stop this form of election fraud and the resulting political corruption by enacting redistricting reform laws through voter initiative in states where the right of voter initiative is available.
Guess not. :-(

Just using geographical quadrants or at least geographic features for district boundries would be fine by me. We can win fair and square and I do NOT like seeing politicos protecting their "turf" by agreement with their opponents.

What third party stands a chance? Answer: None.

Any 3rd party supporters out there? I'll generally vote repub til there's a viable option but without redistricting reform you need not bother.

Dems' ethics suit means 'now we go to war' Bipartisan compromise on ballot initiatives unlikely after legal action

Sacramento -- The Democratic Party's decision to file a wide-ranging ethics complaint against Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger this week probably signaled the end to any chance of a bipartisan compromise on the fate of the November ballot initiatives.

The fact that party Chair Art Torres signed the complaint filed with the Fair Political Practices Commission, not some state senator or Assembly member, shows where the decision was made, said Bruce Cain, a political science professor at UC Berkeley.

"Any 3rd party supporters out there? I'll generally vote repub til there's a viable option but without redistricting reform you need not bother."

It is still best to vote in every election, even though Congressional races and the State Assembly and State Senate races are usually a done deal after the Primary Election, with the outcome determined by Gerrymandering before the General Election.

This is to protect your voting rights (use it or lose it), and to vote for ballot measures and statewide and nonpartisan offices (e.g., judges and local government officials).

Also, it is almost always best to vote Republican to your protect personal freedom, property rights, and hard earned income and other assets.

Voting third party is almost always throwing your vote away and helping the Democrats. If fewer people vote Republican, the entrenched Democrat politicians will think they can get away with even more corruption.

One exception where it is okay or even best to vote for a decent third party (e.g., Libertarian) is when the Republican is a RINO who is sure to lose anyway. Consider this a "Protest Vote". This was the case with RINO and anti-gun former congressman Michael Huffington when he ran against the soft-on-crime and rabid anti-gun Democrat Dianne Feinstein for U.S. Senate.

After losing the election, Michael Huffington came out of the closet, announcing his homosexuality. He and his wife, the ever shrill Arianna Huffington, then divorced. I don't know if Arianna drove Michael to homosexuality, and ultimately to divorce, if she felt dejected because her husband left her for another man, or if she knew of his homosexuality long before he came out of the closet.

The idiot Ted Costa and his group have only themselves to blame in not following the law exactly and using the SAME set of forms they submitted to the Attorney General. As a result our State Legislature remains unreformed. I think I'll stay home this November.

Its more than stylistic. There's no excuse for NOT following the law. What's wrong with these people? They robbed Californians, by their stupid deception of the Attorney General, of a chance to change the way our State Legislature is chosen for the better.

Its just that all of this was poorly thought out. We need to end gerrymandering in California. The Costa measure was just not good enough to get the job done.

The proponents should have done it right or not at all. I would never vote for a measure crafted in defiance of the law. Its like these people had nothing but contempt for the millions of Californians who worked so long and hard to get this on the ballot. We deserved better from them.

Don't believe the propaganda from the incompetent and leftist news organizations. There never was any chance of a "bipartisan compromise on ballot initiatives". The Democrats have a super-majority in both state houses due to gerrymandering, and they have no intention of sharing power with Republicans who are the minority party.

The Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) will probably find in Arnold's favor, only after the leftist Democrats including those in the news organizations have used their accusations to drag Arnold's name through the mud for a while.

This is standard operating procedure for the Democrats. The Democrats in Congress filed on average about 100 false ethics violations per year against then Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

Now aren't you glad the United States has the common law tradition that an accused person is presumed innocent until proven guilty!

Note that you will not find this important right anywhere in the Constitution. If the Democrats have their way with discarding American traditions, such as property rights and marriage being between one man and one woman, you can imagine what they will do to the presumption of innocence if they get the power. The Founders were well aware of threats to freedom like the modern Democrat politicians.

"The fact that party Chair Art Torres signed the complaint filed with the Fair Political Practices Commission, not some state senator or Assembly member, shows where the decision was made, said Bruce Cain, a political science professor at UC Berkeley."
There are at least three noteworthy facts about State Democrat Party Chair and Democrat former State Senator Art Torres.

First, Torres had a series of drunk-driving arrests in the 1980s while he served in the state senate. In one case, he was arrested for drunk driving while still on probation for his previous drunk driving conviction. I believe this happened sometime in 1989. And the Democrat Party honored and rewarded him after this by making him their Party Chairman. This is somewhat analogous to the Democrat Party's treatment of Senator Ted Kennedy.

In the case of his previous drunk driving conviction for which he was still on probation, Torres almost smashed into a police car with its lights running at the state capital, which he did not notice until he was 18 inches away from the police car's bumper.

FYI, rumor has it that Art Torres was arrested near the intersection of Pomona Blvd. at Garfield Ave. by the Monterey Park PD, according to topgundui.com.

Second, Torres sponsored SB 292, California's ban on traditional firearms mislabeled as "assault weapons" in 1989. He did this to divert attention away from his personal scandals and his soft-on-crime voting record. If Art Torres really cared about public safety, he would have turned in his driver license and stayed off the roads.

It is humorous to note that the soft-on-crime, anti-gun Democrat Ferial Masry was endorsed by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Founder Candace Lightner and serial drunk driver and California Democrat Party Chairman Art Torres in her unsuccessful bid to win the 37th Assembly District in November, 2004. You can read her concession speech at http://ferialmasryforassembly.com/press/PR_concession.htm.

Third, Commerce Department officials questioned Cordoba Corporation's financial management of a federal program which involved the hiring of former state Senator Art Torres to a $90,000 job. Federal officials reduced the money in question from several hundred thousand dollars to a few thousand. More information on this case of possible political corruption and payoffs can be found in the L.A. Weekly article "Rivals jockey for post position as Alatorre play out hand" by Tony Castro, March 13-19, 1998, at:
http://www.laweekly.com/ink/98/16/news-castro.php

But then again, being a socialist Democrat means never having to say you are sorry.

"Oh screw it, we need to just dissolve the judicial branch and rebuild it from the ground up."

I thing the problem has more to do with socialist Democrats than with the judicial branch. It appears that Democrat Attorney General Bill Lockyer is engaging in political corruption to preserve the corruption of gerrymandering by his party.

"Yea but even you can't do anything with "coart".

Well that's because "coart" is what Lockyear and the CA Arts Commission have on display in the Crapitol at taxpayer expense and sponsorship... that "coart" of our American Flag being dumped in the toilet and trying to call it "art!"

So when CA's AG and the lieberal Arts COMMInission become cohorts... you gits "coart!" A word that will live in infamy!!! (there, now how 'bout dat?)

Oh! By the way... the piece of coart was submitted by the same creepy Marin County lawyer that had the US Serviceman hung in effigy on his Sacramento home a few months ago that Mrs. Wasp and I drove down to protest in the rain!!!

The people who supposedly represent my family's interests in Congress is the stuff of nightmares: Woolsey, Boxer and Feinstein . No wonder a "mistake" was found in the so-called process.

The CA women who supposedly represent women - Woolsey, Pelosi and Boxer are hysterical, bombastic, over emotional and every negative stereotype of women.

Removing the redistricting initiative means we in northern CA remain in the quagmire of hysterical female representation!

GGGGRRRR!

Thanks for the ping. We CA republicans saw this as a glimmer of hope that the state might take a slight right turn, but it looks like right turns are slowly being declared illegal or unjustifiable. I'd move in a minute if I could find a job that paid as well as I have here and believe me I've tried.
