Bait and Switch (more on the two Edith's)

FROM NRO:

Bait and Switch?!? [Jonathan Adler 07/19 02:38 PM] This would certainly set off Washington. I don't believe it, but it's an interesting thought.

------------------------------------------------ Something has happened in the past ten minutes. I've had three five (they keep IM'ing) people from the media and conservative think tanks IM to say we're on a wild goose chase -- the conservative think tank people say its an intentional one. According to them, we should not be looking at Edith Clement, but at her cohort on the Fifth Circuit, Edith H. Jones a/k/a the Female Scalia.

My money is on Clement still, but it is interesting how, by the time I've finished writing this post seven people have IM'ed to say it is Jones, not Clement.

Reminds me of the Novak generated Rehquist retirement frenzy of two weeks ago, but with more credible people participating this time.

Archie's devoted and dutiful wife may in fact be a bit of a "dingbat," as Archie calls her, but she is also the glue that holds the Bunker home together. Edith is yin to Archie's yang. Where he is opinionated and short-tempered, she is patient and unbiased. She is completely devoted to her husband, and sees him as a good man. She is warm in her heart, and knows how to keep her hubby happy, even though she doesn't always quite have a grasp on what is happening around her. Edith's maiden name is Baines and she graduated from Millard Fillmore High School in 1943. The worst thing she ever did was steal a five cent O'Henry candy bar when she was six years old which she eventually brought back to the store. She did however, have to pay a dime because the price had gone up.

Now we're cooking with Gas. (At least we are sure it won't be that bratty five-year-old Edith Ann from Laugh-In or Mrs. Bunker)

If Bush was smart, he would invite the 5 finalists for the Court to appear with him at the White House tonight. They could make it a one hour special, just like when the announce the Heisman Trophy winner. There could be profiles on each of the finalists. At the end of the hour, Bush would name his nominee.

I agree. Just googled "Judge Edith H. Jones" and the search results were interesting...

My sources are telling me that he's going to nominate Gonzalez, then after he breezes through the confirmation, Gonzalez will rip off his rubber mask and reveal that he is, in fact, Robert Bork!

The one potential monkey wrench in the plan is inquisitive gangs of meddling teenagers.
