That's a bit exagerated. Certainly, like the Communist Red Chinese, Vietnam has seen the value of allowing industry to interact with the West, and to allow partnerships with Western companies. But the Communist Party still controls the political space of Vietnam, still tortures, maims and kills people and still holds the goal of the defeat of the West.

It was a noble cause, and over 70% of Vietnam veterans (myself included) have said they were glad they served there even knowing how the war would end (over 80% of us are proud of our service). It accomplished a lot -- ask Lee Kwan Yu of Singapore who agrees.

History has proven that statement idiotic. Our 10 year fight in Vietnam forced world communism to focus its resources in SE Asia. Had we simply allowed them to win in 1965, those same resources would have been spent making mischief in a dozen other places around the world.

If not for Vietnam, 1989 may never have happened.

There were tremendous efforts exerted by courageous young men and women in both efforts......however, I wouldn't crow too much about a victory that I would liken to Notre Dame bringing in Joe Montana to then whip up on a high school team.
