There has been much speculation about what Tom Tancredo said on the now famous interview last Friday on WFLA-AM in Orlando, Fla.
From what I am reading here on FR, much of that speculation is wrong.
Tancredo was, in fact, suggesting that we consider (not implement, just consider implementing) a strategy similar to the strategy that Reagan used to win the Cold War.
Listen for yourself. HERE
If you think Tancredo is a nut case, and you don't want to change your thinking, move along, this clip isn't for you. Just post your thoughts without listening.
Obviously, once we get to the point of nuking Mecca, the gloves are off. The terrorists can only continue as is because they are reasonably certain we won't respond in that fashion. They can't stand up to our arsenal if we actually use it.
Doesn't matter.
I want him to run in the primary.
Its about the bigger scheme of things.
He can pull the race further to the right, and force republicans to come up with real solutions on immigration.
He sort of keeps everyone else honest even if he can't win.
He isn't going to win it, but he will help make the candidates better prepared, thats more important.
That's because you're not bothering to actually read and understand the posts. You are kneejerking your way to conclusions you think are there, largely because you despise Tancredo, I suspect.
Tancredo is NOT suggesting that we annihilate the Muslim world. We didn't annihilate the Nazis, the Japanese imperialists, or the Cold War communists either. But we did visit or threaten to visit overwhelming force on all three and thereby won the peace.
Your approach is better known as the Chamberlain-Vichy-Quisling approach, and it has a record of failure as dismal as the US war-waging record of success is bright.
He was talking about retaliation, but he knows how this is going to be spun, lucky for him, this is a dead story.
I just don't want to see him tagged the wrong way before he serves his purpose in the primary, its better that he be maintained so he can do the job needed of him in the house and in the 2008 primary when the time comes.
Good points, Thanks!
Agreed. I hope you are correct in this matter. My feeling is that should an attack take place here and it is clear it was carried out via the border problem....many more "known" leaders will end their silence and take a real lead on it.
And exactly who asked him to do this. (This ought to be good. Where's the tin foil?)
Exactly. If the scenario in #60 became reality, there would be no choice other than taking the gloves off, and send the real message.
These people are clearly not fearful of our military. At this point, it's clear, our military has not scared them off, or scared them straight.
Lets face it, they have little fear. If they sent our economy into the dark ages, killing hundreds of thousands of Americas, possible contamination our cities for years, there would have a response that sent a clear message.
So you think that a couple of million democrats stomping their feet rapidly and shouting "OOOOHHHH-- Now you've made us REAL mad!" is going to be "earth shaking"? Or perhaps the leftists withholding their counseling sessions from future jihadists would be the "devastating impact"?
Get Real. All the leftist scum in this country will do after such an attack is ramp up their criticism of Bush even more, and claim he should be impeached for not doing enough to stop the attacks (all the while they have held his hands behind his back).
Sadly, I doubt Pres. Bush would take any military action that would offend the PC left. It's the "New Tone" you know.
If he really said that he should resign from Congress. First, I think he is lying because he wouldn't have access to that type military secret plan, and to lie to the Muslim world by claiming that our military has plans to bomb Mecca could cost a lot of Lives of Americans serving in Iraq and here at home.
Secondly, if he did have access to top secret military plans and publicly disclosed those secrete military plans he should resign and face criminal charges.
Thanks for providing the text and context of Tancredo's words. They are less inflammatory than I originally perceived.
What was twisted? The recording and transcript speak for themselves. What has anyone twisted? The only twisting and spinning is Tancredo himself trying to crawfish.
What seems to be very ugly here is Tancredo's position on illegal immigration. And this is what is driving the Republican attack on him.
I know that sound strange, but that is what is happening here.
Uh no, the dmocrats approach is that.
tancredo's approach is bombast and grandstanding to massage his little ego, IMO.
(A daisycutter in the center of that stadium with the rock in it will do just fine)
Isn't that what we did to the residents of Hiroshima and Nagasaki? What did those "innocent" japanese civilians ever do to us?
Isn't that what we did to the residents of Dresden, Germany? What did those "innocent" German civilians ever do to us?
Here's a hint: Those 99.9999% (hah!) are NOT innocent. Like the civilians of Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Dresden they supported the actions of their military arm. Moderate Islam is a fraud. There is no such thing, the moderates let the fascists take over their religion, either out of fear or out of tacit agreement with the so-called basic principles of that phoney religion.
My solution would be to exile ALL U.S. muslims to a muslim country, maybe even near Mecca, so they can at last make that great pilgrimage. We do have several legal precedents that would justify such an action, and after a few million truly "innocent" Americans are killed even the left might agree with such a plan.
What is your solution?
