Dork Pride! Suddenly, it's cool to be uncool
CNN ^ | July 18, 2005

... Whatever the reason, being a nerd, a geek, a dork -- whatever you want to call the tragically unhip -- is becoming a source of pride. ... And, increasingly, people are parading around in shirts that say "Dork Pride!" among other things. Such items have gotten so popular that CafePress.com, an online merchandiser, has created a special category for shirts and other items celebrating geeks, dorks and nerds. ... For now, though, he's going with it and has put a bumper sticker on his motorcycle that says "Talk Nerdy To Me" so he attracts the kind of women he's looking for -- "a librarian type girl," who likes to go to bookstores and art galleries and whose eyes don't glaze over when he starts talking about the finer points of "Babylon 5" or "Battlestar Galactica." ... "I see them as eccentrics or maybe smart, gentle people with a passion for something that may not be popular at the moment, like maybe computers, 'Star Wars,' physics," says Mai, a 28-year-old university employee who lives in Walnut, California. "Say, for instance, we're watching a dream movie with Tom Cruise, Denzel Washington, Brad Pitt and Topher Grace. I'd gush over Topher Grace," she adds, referring to an actor from "That '70s Show" who's known for his geek appeal.

To prove her point, Mai has an "I (Heart) Dorks" tank top, which she wears often.

440 yards a throw and the coach didn't put you in. Gosh, that is so remarkable. And so believable, too.

You better believe things would have been different. I'd have gone pro in a heartbeat. I'd be making millions of dollars and living in a big old mansion somewhere. You know, soaking it up in a hot tub with my soul mate.

I reckon you know a lot about cyberspace. You ever come across anything like time travel?

Here is my son's song. Mind you, after seeing Napolean Dynamite one night I told him it took me until I was in my 30s to realize that it was the geeks in school who were more true to their friends and themselves. When the neighbor boy told him he was a nerd, his answer was, "I know I'm kind of a nerd, but I'm proud of it."
Anyhow, here is his song. He says if anyone wants to pay him to record him, let me know. LOL!
The life of a
Geek

I can’t get a girlfriend.
Only had one date.
I showed her my airplane collection,
Then we went to the zoo.
We fed the panther,
Then jumped on the kan-ga-roo.
We went to the movies.
We watched Star Wars.
She didn’t like it,
But I kept yelling,
“Cool! Cool! Cool!”
Everybody said, “BE QUIET!”
We got kicked out.
She wanted to gaze at the stars.
I said, “Let’s play D&D.
We’ll have fun. You can be a halfing.”
Aside in background, female voice : (“You can be half dumb.”)
We had fun!
At least one of us.
All the guys were impressed
That she was a real girl.
Male voice in background: (“Unlike that robot you brought last week.”)

I drove her home.
Leaned over for a good night kiss
[SLAP!!]
IT’S OVER!!
whiny: But it never started!!
