Cooper flat-out lied when he told Tim Russert that he first heard the identity of Joe Wilson’s wife from Rove. Rove never mentioned the woman’s name, only that Wilson’s wife worked for the CIA. He never said who that woman was

How many wives does Wilson have? I guess I'm lost on this. So what if he didn't say her name.....what's the difference between saying her name and saying "Wilson's wife".?

Huge difference.

"Wilsons wife works for the CIA" = innocent

"Wilsons wife, covert operative Valerie Plame, works for the CIA" = guilty

It is the same as if I say "Cooper's wife". You imagine a meek little suburban housewife.

BUT, if I say he is married to Mandy Grunwald, his reporting takes on a whole different meaning.

Cooper's own email, which was very mysteriously leaked to Time magazine's bitter rival, Newsweek, said only that Rove mentioned to Cooper that Wilson was sent to Niger by his wife, "who apparently works for the CIA." It's hard to imagine that Cooper would have sent such a non-specific email to his editor if Karl Rove had specifically given him the name of Valerie Plame for the first time.

I did not see Cooper on MTP, but I would like to know, did he say he learned of Plame's NAME from Rove, or her IDENTITY? Perhaps Cooper was not exactly lying, if he said he learned of her "identity" from Rove, if Rove was indeed the first person who told him that Wilson's wife worked for the CIA. But clearly he is intending to confuse the public in order to take the heat off his own false and libelous story he ran after speaking to Rove, when he wrote about a nefarious coordinated effort by the White House to get revenge on Joe Wilson by outing his wife.

I noticed that also.

Such lame arguments are embarrassing.

Rove never mentioned the woman’s name, only that Wilson’s wife worked for the CIA.

That kindof misses the point. The issue was if Rove had known not just that whe worked for the administration, but that she was a covert agent who the CIA had taken "affirmative measures" to create a hidden identity...and that further, he had learned of this through internal sources. From a legal point of view there are several other measures of intent that need be demonstrated too, but that is sufficient.

Even if he had said her name, unless he took information from "inside" and made it known "outside", it is not leaking. It is in no way illegal to repeat reporters comments to another reporter, and several reporters - both liberal and conservative - came out and said that they had known Plame worked for the CIA before Novak's column came out. Further, it is not illegal to state that someone works for the CIA (unless it is false) - ONLY to out an "undercover" or clandestine agent.

There have been widespread reports that George Tenet worked for the CIA. Porter Goss too.

This fuss is to make it SOUND like Clintonian malfeasance...which is the whole point of many of the Dem attacks.

So what if he didn't say her name.....what's the difference between saying her name and saying "Wilson's wife".?

In many liberals' eyes, womyn will reluctantly consent to marrying, but reserve the right to keep their own name (Hillary Broomstick Rodham, for example).

So saying that someone was married to Joe Wilson would not necessarily mean you could find her by looking up "Mrs. Wilson".

Cheers!

The difference is in not saying the name Valerie Plame, which supposedly was her undercover name. Simply saying Wilson's wife tells the guy nothing except that she worked at CIA , or do you think that telling someone that a person works for CIA is a crime? So far it is not.

Also, she was not undercover at the time. This whole story is a non-story and would never have been mentioned by the MSM if it did not envolve Rove. On top of that it has already been proven Rove didn't break the law but the MSM keeps on trying to shove it down people's throats.

How many wives does Wilson have?

He has had three wives. Wilson obviously wasn't too worried about revealing her name, job description and address. One of them provided all of that with their political donations...
