If you did not see Matthew Coopers performance this morning on Meet the Press, you should have, because it gave away the plot for the attack on Karl Rove.
Cooper flat-out lied when he told Tim Russert that he first heard the identity of Joe Wilsons wife from Rove. Rove never mentioned the womans name, only that Wilsons wife worked for the CIA. He never said who that woman was.
Cooper, clearly under orders to keep the fake-scandal alive, told that whopper to Tim Russert, because without it, the story would die a quick death.
Remember what is going on here.
This is not about Rove, it is about the Supreme Court. The goal is not to just get Rove as some are saying, but to create an environment where the Democrats can garner enough public opinion to begin arguing that George Bush should not be allowed to set the direction of the Supreme Court while under this cloud of suspicion.
The Democrats are working toward connecting the fake Rove Scandal to Bush, which can only happen after Karl Roves security clearance is revoked. If that happens, the Democrats can then accuse Rove of nefarious activities which he will not be able to defend against without the ability to either access or reference classified material. The Democrats want Roves clearance so that he can be framed.
So what you saw today, was the husband of one of Hillary Clintons main lieutenants lying on television to keep a dying story alive. Matthew Cooper is without credibility and should not be trusted.
Before anyone asks me, none of the above is the product of my personal opinion.
Rove is a Red Herring bump!
"But the $1,000 donation in 1999 to the primary efforts of Al Gore is the legit FEC entry for "Mrs. Valerie Wilson" and shows her as employed by her CIA cover corporation."
Who would know that? There is even some contention that it wasn't a real CIA front. (It was a pretty lame one if it was, since they didn't even have an office.)
All I meant to do was correct a misrepresentation. Mrs. Wilson's FEC records did not out her as a CIA agent. Neither, as some have also inaccurately claimed, did Wilson's bio. It just mentioned he was married to a woman nee Plame.
Don't tell me Rove is going to back RINO Giuliani ):
How well known are the names of CIA cover corporations? Would there ever be any kind of reason to confirm the name of any of them? I assume the name of this one leaked, but when & how?
Maybe they are, maybe they aren't. How would you know? Or did you just make that up out of the blue sky?
Your ping list must be HUGE. Do you have room for one more?
The wife of a former ambassador, first of all, wouldn't be covert and second of all wouldn't be attending a Clinton state dinner. Yes, that would be out of line. Hello, there goes Ms. Plame to a state dinner with a former Ambassador to a state dinner and you think no one would notice?!
I agree that one of the reasons for the Dems frantic attack against Rove is to gin up support for a more liberal court.
There is a broader purpose, though, and this is where the Democrat party f***s up almost every time:
Rather than fairly debate ideas, nominations, legislation and/or principles, they are so desperate (they have underdeveloped brains, you know) that they believe the best alternative available to them is personal attack, even when they have little or no evidence to justify their actions.
No doubt there are tons of rumors floating about DC regarding what is going on with the grand jury, and the media does seem to be smelling (perhaps, just seeking) blood. In particular, the MSM mantra now seems to be that, "Scott McClellan lied to us!" Okay, if that's all it was a simple, "sorry, you're so stupid" should suffice for an apology from the Bush Administration.
What is particularly pathetic, though, is the lack of scrutiny Wilson's assertions have received from the MSM.
Thank God for Free Republic and all those who work so hard to get out the truth.
But all in all, your post is perfect.
"The wife of a former ambassador, first of all, wouldn't be covert and second of all wouldn't be attending a Clinton state dinner. Yes, that would be out of line. Hello, there goes Ms. Plame to a state dinner with a former Ambassador to a state dinner and you think no one would notice?!"
You watch too many James Bond movies. Most covert agents use embassies as their bases. Most work out of foreign embassies. They are often there with some other title, sometimes even as the wife of so and so. This is what the VAST majority of covert agents. This is what is known as have an "official cover.
Plame is sometimes said to have had a "non-official cover." This is possible, but not likely. There are very few coverts agents working as NOCs. A very small percent of covert agents.
Someone who was doing business with the front agency! That's who. And if it wasn't why was Plame saying that it was? I think someone needs to clean up the CIA, ASAP! It seems to be filled with political hacks. I thought they were supposed to be providing information for our NATIONAL SECURITY not trying to cover a nobody who wants to be a somebody! It seems some at CIA have spent more time CTA than trying to protect this country! Why in the world did they send Joe Wilson anywhere if they weren't acting politically?! Was he the best they could find?! I surely hope not!!! I want the name of the person who signed off on sending that creep! That should be part of the investigation instead of whether Karl Rove said "I heard that too" to some dumb*ss "reporter" who had already heard the same information from another "reporter"!
And the simple, clear fact that there could not possibly have been a crime somehow escaped the notice of the CIA before it requested an inquiry, and hasn't come to Patrick Fitzgerald's attention in the last two years.
Sorry. No way it's going to be that easy.
You have no idea what I watch because I hate James Bond movies. I just know it doesn't make sense for a CIA agent to attend a STATE DINNER with a FORMER AMBASSADOR when people know what she looks like. If that isn't a problem then why all the uproar going on with Karl Rove saying Wilson's wife? If they know what she looks like, lives with him, has a published address, etc. WHAT'S THE BIG DAMN DEAL?!
Maybe this will help you:
How Deep Is CIA Cover?
By Ed Finn

This week, the Justice Department began to investigate whether White House officials leaked the identity of covert CIA operative Valerie Plame to several journalists this summer. (Plame is married to a Bush administration critic and had been known as an "energy industry analyst" until political commentator Robert Novak divulged her real profession in a July column.) Which CIA employees go undercover, and how secretive must they be?
Only a small percentage of the CIA's employees (perhaps less than 10 percent of the agency's estimated 10,000 to 20,000 workers) are clandestine officers involved in operationsthe traditional spy stuff that includes recruiting sources, executing covert missions, and gathering intelligence. The remaining 90 percent are analysts, managers, scientists, and support staff (the Company has room for artists, too, according to the CIA kids' page). Because of their various roles, CIA employees require different levels of protective cover:
No cover. Upper management, college recruiters, congressional liaisons, Director George Tenet: These men and women are publicly acknowledged CIA employees.
Light cover. Many of the CIA's analysts and scientists fall under this category. Their families and friends might know who they really work for, but publicly, they claim to be employed by some other innocuous government agency or group. One former intelligence officer described this as "the cover you use if your airplane gets hijacked": It's safe enough to use on a quick visit overseas, say to meet with intelligence counterparts in a friendly country, but insufficient cover for spies stationed abroad.
Official cover. Most CIA employees engaged in operations overseas are given official cover: a sham job in the U.S. embassy (or working for another government agency) that affords them diplomatic immunity. These spies work under varying degrees of secrecythe CIA station chief in a major ally nation may be well-known on the diplomatic cocktail circuit, but his subordinates, who actually recruit new informants, may not be. Such spies probably confide in their immediate families, but otherwise are unlikely to reveal their true occupation. (Although some operatives working in allied nations are "declared" officers, which means the CIA informs the host government that they are spies.) The advantage of official cover is that if officers are caught, they enjoy the benefits of diplomatic protection; at worst, they'd be publicly outed and sent home in disgrace.
Nonofficial cover. NOCs (the word rhymes with "rocks") are the most covert CIA operatives. They typically work abroad without diplomatic protection (often they pretend to work for some commercial enterprise). If these spies are caught, there's no guarantee that the United States would admit their true identities. When using official cover could put a spy's life and work at risk, NOC is the only alternative.
Why is it such a big deal that someone outed Valerie Plame? For starters, it's a felony. And Plame was also reportedly a NOC with years of experience investigating weapons of mass destruction. If this is true, her discovery could compromise intelligence operations she was involved with around the world, which would explain why she maintained her nonofficial cover even when she was back in the United States. "Hard target" countries like China and North Korea often keep records of every known meeting between Americans and their scientists and officials. Almost certainly, those lists would have been frantically reviewed when Plame's identity was revealed, and any sources she recruited could have been exposed.

When Plame was "covert" the odds are 100 to 1 she was in "official cover."
Please add me as well. Thanks
Is this Rove/Plame joke ever going to get to the punchline?
Mr. Mandy G. caught my attention with those words. Will have to read the posts here to see what others think.
(I can't sp Groenwald?)
Oh if I say Wilson's wife, who works at the CIA on WMD, was the person responsible for sending the poor ambassador to Niger, that doesnt ID his wife. You are parsing words more closely than a Clinton spinmeister. You may think his wife Mandy already knew that but you have less evidence for that than what Cooper just said which seems to match up with what Rove's lawyer says.
Okay, I won't tell you that. It's not necessarily the case. All we know is that he met with Rudy at Rudy's request - one-on-one. I imagine many presidential wannabes and contenders will try to get his ear and attention of these next years. The bigger question may be what his own intentions are after this president steps down. Will he retire back to TX? Will advise the highest bidder? Is he already working on Condi's candidacy? Only time will tell.....
There ought to be a Presidential Medal of Freedom in his future. Wouldn't that just frost the RATS?
