Dem Strategist Suggests on MSNBC that President May Be Focus of Leak Probe
MSNBC News | 07/16/2005 | MSNBC

Posted on 07/16/2005 7:55:07 AM PDT by RightFighter

On MSNBC a little while ago, they had a story about the "politics of the CIA leak". The reporter was interviewing Pat Buchanan and Democratic strategist Peter Fenn. What follows is the best transcript I could piece together quickly. I've quoted Fenn word for word.

PAT BUCHANAN: It's very, very serious...There is a credibility problem for the press secretary...There is no legal problem for Rove...Reporters in Washington have a gleam in their eye and smiles on their faces, and there's a reason for it...Pat Fitzgerald hasn't been digging for two years and judges haven't been sending reporters to jail because they don't have anything...Everyone in town (Washington) feels there is something very, very serious and today's story in the NY Times where a memo was floating around aboard Air Force One about Wilson's trip to Africa indicates this could be very big stuff.

ALEX: Peter, what kind of big stuff could Pat be referring to?

PETER FENN: Alex, this is not a third-rate burglary. The focus had been on White House staff. Now, as Pat says, with this memo from the State Department about Wilson, about his wife, about the connection, it was brought onto Air Force One by Secretary Powell. I cannot imagine, Alex, that if he's going up and down the aisles with that memo as he was supposed to have been, that he did not discuss it with the President of the United States. I cannot imagine that there were not phone calls from Ari Fleischer, the Press Secretary who was on board, back to the White House about this. This was precisely at the time when Wilson was about to publish his article. Folks knew about his position about weapons of mass destruction. I have a sense that this may go all the way to the top.

And if I was interested in your critique of my posting habits, I would have asked for it.

I didn't know that I had to ask your permission before criticising your commentary. Nonetheless, FYI, I don't ask permission. That said, if you chose to be an asshole, by all means, indulge yourself.

PS: There are significant rumblings going on, as I mentioned, and it's not all about Bush. These issues will continue beyond his departure from the scene. I am doing what I can to ensure that the CONSERVATIVE agenda -- which Bush is ignoring -- prevails.

You weren't criticizing my "commentary." You were attacking me personally with a snotty aside.

I really, really wanted to be an a$$hole, but when I applied, I found the job already filled -- by you.

The network kills two birds with one stone: they can say they're being fair while at the same time portraying all conservatives to be like this wingnut.

In order to believe this you would have to believe CNN also put Buchanan on the air to make Republicans look bad. According to the drugged up freaks at DU, CNN and MSNBC, along with CBS, NBC, and ABC, are run by the big money capitalist corporations. They are only interested in propping up Dubya's failed administration.

Surprisingly the corporate sponsored media is incredibly inept and misguidedly at the forefront of the push to impeach Bush for the dastardly crime of being a Republican. It's strange how the DU identified "powers that be" keep going after their own guys.

Right, Sandy "Deep Pockets" Bergler got probation and lost his security clearance for 3 years. Can anyone tell me why he still had security clearance to loose?

Good Point...perhaps Bush's Impeachment wouldn't be so bad after all...I'd laugh my butt off if Bush did resign and was replaced by Cheney !

Cheney is twice as conservative as Bush. And could be elected for 2 additional terms :) hehehe

We'd have 11 more years of a guaranteed conservative in the white house ! By the time his tenure was up Hillary would have Alzheimer's

YOU said: "Anybody who thinks that George W. Bush has done ANYTHING that requires a resignation is NOT a Republican or a conservative, period."

And I said: "I am a conservative and a Republican and I believe that Bush's failure to effectively defend our borders (provide for the common defense) could serve as a prima facia cause for his resignation or expulsion from office. His signing of McCain's CFR, one of the most egregious assaults on free speech in US history, could easily suffice as charge number two. With the SCOTUS busy trampling upon private property rights, looks like GW has a lot of company."

Then YOU said: "You can "believe" you're the King of England; doesn't make it true."

And I said: "My use of the term "believe" implies that I have though it through, and come to a conclusion, as many conservatives have also done. Perhaps you are not in tune with current events? PS: Your arguments would be better served were you to resist your usual impulse for launching simplistic ad-hominem attacks."

Then YOU said: "Not as many as you'd love to claim though; "the base" is sticking with Bush...And if I was interested in your critique of my posting habits, I would have asked for it."

And I said: "I didn't know that I had to ask your permission before criticizing your commentary. Nonetheless, FYI, I don't ask permission. That said, if you chose to be an asshole, by all means, indulge yourself. PS: There are significant rumblings going on, as I mentioned, and it's not all about Bush. There were no snide comments on MY part, until you opened up with you now quite familiar ad-hominem. My comment vis a vis current events was accurate, even if you fail to face it head on.

PS: I wasn't suggesting that you were an asshole, only that you appeared to be -- this at your choosing.

Saying you can say you're the King of England is now considered an ad hominem attack?

Touchy, ain't you?

Because that's all I said to warrant your snotty remarks to me.

And, no, it doesn't have a hyphen.

You offered, what I would call, a shitty response to a valid critique. I guess that's what you're all about anyway.

You must be better informed than the President and all of his staff; perhaps you should give them a heads up.

"We'd have 11 more years of a guaranteed conservative in the white house"

No, that's not true. The maximum time in office as President is 10 years. Ford took office before the mid point of Nixon's term, so, had he won in 76, he could not have run again in 80. Had Johnson run and won in 68, he could have been in office for about nine years and two months.

Of course, LBJ did at least nine years and two months worth of damage before he had served out the rest of JFK's first term.

I'll ask you one more time, do you believe GWB to be a Constitutional conservative? That is, has he himself put the constitution first before his actions? Your answer would be most interesting in light of the impending nominations for the SC. With or without your answer we will all have an idea of GWB's concept of the Constitution and fundemental rights by his selections for the next justices.

Thank you for reminding me Dubya Bush is the Second Coming, and his "staff" are the Apostles.

Yes, I do.

Now that you've gotten your answer, I'm sure you're just CHOMPING at the bit to come back and tell me just how much better a conservative YOU are and how wrong I am.

It's almost like it's your only release of tension.
