Dem Strategist Suggests on MSNBC that President May Be Focus of Leak Probe
MSNBC News | 07/16/2005 | MSNBC

On MSNBC a little while ago, they had a story about the "politics of the CIA leak". The reporter was interviewing Pat Buchanan and Democratic strategist Peter Fenn. What follows is the best transcript I could piece together quickly. I've quoted Fenn word for word.

PAT BUCHANAN: It's very, very serious...There is a credibility problem for the press secretary...There is no legal problem for Rove...Reporters in Washington have a gleam in their eye and smiles on their faces, and there's a reason for it...Pat Fitzgerald hasn't been digging for two years and judges haven't been sending reporters to jail because they don't have anything...Everyone in town (Washington) feels there is something very, very serious and today's story in the NY Times where a memo was floating around aboard Air Force One about Wilson's trip to Africa indicates this could be very big stuff.

ALEX: Peter, what kind of big stuff could Pat be referring to?

PETER FENN: Alex, this is not a third-rate burglary. The focus had been on White House staff. Now, as Pat says, with this memo from the State Department about Wilson, about his wife, about the connection, it was brought onto Air Force One by Secretary Powell. I cannot imagine, Alex, that if he's going up and down the aisles with that memo as he was supposed to have been, that he did not discuss it with the President of the United States. I cannot imagine that there were not phone calls from Ari Fleischer, the Press Secretary who was on board, back to the White House about this. This was precisely at the time when Wilson was about to publish his article. Folks knew about his position about weapons of mass destruction. I have a sense that this may go all the way to the top.

"Former covert CIA agent Fred Rustmann, Washington Times, 15 July 2005 said that "she made no bones about the fact that she was an agency employee and her husband was a diplomat...Her neighbors knew this, her friends knew this, his friends knew this." It was the position of the CIA, according to Rustmann, that she was a "non-official cover," or NOC, until 1997, and hadn't been out as that type of agent since then, instead having overt status."

Rustmann was on Hannity and Eyebrow last night. Apparently he was Plame's immediate boss after she came out of the academy...or whatever they do with new recruits. However, to my knowledge he left the CIA in 1990 so I'm not sure how much he really brings to the table.

"Got a question for you: If the people of Pennsylvania are RINO's and want Specter as Senator, then why the hell should President Bush try to lead a bunch of people to a place that they don't want to go?"

Just a reminder -- conservative Pat Toomey was running neck and neck with Democrat RINO Arlen Specter...

Instead of campaigning for a real Republican, Dubya Bush campaigns for Specter.

Specter beats Toomey by 1.5% in the Primary.

Now the GOP is stuck with an unreliable Senator, and renegade RINO heading the Judiciary Committee -- thanks in LARGE part to Dubya Bush.

Is THAT the "place" you and Dubya want to lead us??

And why don't you explain why President Bush REFUSES TO SECURE THE BORDER AFTER 9/11?

Because he's a FOS Globalist and anti-U.S. sovereignist....

I'll be popping some popcorn while you come up with with any justification on BOTH counts....

I asked this on another thread, and nobody knew. What's this guy Fitzgerald's background? Is he a Republican, or is he a Democrat with a leftist agenda? And if this investigation turns into a partisan witchhunt, what can be done? I know Nixon's firing of a special prosecutor didn't work out so well, but if this guy truly gets out of control and goes after the President, something clearly will have to be done.

I guarantee the WH already knows everything about this Plame Game and isn't sweating over anything. All this no-comment is just letting the Rats, MSM and Wilson himself get enough rope to really hang themselves.

I agree. Note that for the past 2 days Bush has deliberately had Rove right at his side. It's almost as if he is using Rove as a chip on his shoulder and DARING the loony libs to try and knock him off. The libs want more then anything to see a sign of a crack in the resolve of this president and they being driven nuts by the presidents calm demeanor and steadfast loyalty to his chief of staff.

You can bet your a*s he knows EXACTLY what's coming down the pike in this investigation.

And everyone who doesn't kiss the ground Dubya Bush walks on is a "malcontent" according to you.

See what I mean? You've been saying the same damn things since 1999.

He is a dem (I know) from Chicago (I think).
Many GOP say he is well respected
Many dems say he is conducting a runaway Grand Jury.

I hope that is a sign he is persuing truth.

A danger was that Bush would support Toomey, Toomey would win the primary and loose the general election. That would give the president somebody who would support the president 0% of the time.

A danger was that Bush would support Toomey and Specter would still win both the primary and the general election. Then you would have a pissed-off Specter who would most likely support the president 0% of the time.

Bush made a political calculation. Bush made a pragmatic, conservative calculation. So far Specter has been supportive of the filibuster.

Real conservatives don't misplace blame as you've done. Toomey was defeated and Specter was elected. The people of Pennsylvania who did not vote for Toomey are responsible for that outcome.

Dream on!
This is not about Karl Rove. It is not about the President.
It is about desperate Dems and their losing agenda. It is really about John Bolton, O'Connor, and Rhenquist.
Rave on!

A Dem from Chicago doesn't sound good. But if the Rats are complaining, maybe it's okay. I'm just nervous about this. It's notoriously easy to get a grand jury indictment. Doesn't mean a crime was comitted, but that distinction is usually lost on the public who wee indictment and think the person must be guilty. The RAT blogs are already talking about an indictment of Bush, which sounds ludicrous, but an out of control prosecutor in front of a runaway grand jury can get into a lot of mischief.

I probably worry too much, but I just have a bad feeling about this stuff.

I don't even like legal immigration.

That said, Bush has taken the post 9/11 tactic of working with the countries of Central America, allowing both our CBP agents and our CIA agents access to both sea and airports in those countries. It's a lot easier than covering every foot of 15,000 miles of land border and 10,000 miles of water border.

I'll be popping some popcorn while you come up with with any justification on BOTH counts....

Don't burn your kernels.

Guys, there is no problem here. Everyone is going after a non issue. Somebody would really have to get some very good evidence to show that this amounts to a crime.

And as we are all watching Rove and Fitzgerald, many other people are working quickly and quietly behind the scenes on the real issue. Supreme Court judge.

Whats the worst thing that happens. Rove gets a slap, or looses his job in time to work on someone else's campaign. Or GWB gets the congress to slap his wrist. He cant really be impeached.

Go to a shopping center outside of Washington and see if anyone can explain this story or even knows it exists.

People know it exists. The MSM has made sure of that. They may not be able to explain what it's all about, but they "know" one of Bush's key men is involved in some kind of scandal. So in that sense, the RATS have gained from this no matter what the outcome. If (when) it turns out to be nothing, they'll have already moved on to another smear. Very frustrating.

Peter Fitzgerald gave Patrick Fitzgerald (no relation) his job as a federal prosecutor. Patrick has done a great job in Chicago. He has put several people in jail from Daley's city workers to the last republican governor's men and soon the ex-governor himself. When this guy is done somebody is going to jail if there is a crime. But he is not one of those who is looking for a plea, or harassment. He gets hard evidence for big crimes and people go to jail. He has never seemed to be interested in politics.

Chicago needed some house cleaning and he did it, regardless of political persuasion or power.

OK, so people think someone in the WH did something wrong. When have we had a scandal free WH. Big deal! People fall into three camps. Hard right, who love Rove. Hard left, who hate Rove and think he is the mastermind who can control politics, newspapers, the weather, and who wins the world series. And the normal American who has no idea who he is or what his job is.
