Larry Elder: What Do Terrorists Want?

THERE IS NO TERRORIST THREAT. THERE IS NO TERRORIST THREAT"-FILMMAKER MICHAEL MOORE Sep. 26, 2003

Tell that to London.

Four explosions, perhaps set by home-grown terrorists, targeted that city's transportation system. The current death toll stands at 52, with more than 700 people injured. The train bombings in Madrid on March 11, 2004, killed 191. Three days later, Spaniards voted out the pro-war government and voted in the anti-war Socialists. The incoming prime minister vowed to promptly pull out Spanish troops from Iraq. Spain's reward? On April 2, 2004, Spanish authorities found a 22-pound bomb on a railway track between Madrid and Seville. And, later that year, in October, Spanish authorities foiled a plot to blow up their National Court, Spain's center for prosecuting terrorists.

So much for Osama bin Laden's "offer," made a month after the Madrid train bombings, for a "truce" to any European country that stops "attacking Muslims" before a three-month deadline.

What more is there to say? We are still being too nice with these guys. It took just too nukes for us to bring down japan, which was one of the most vicious war nations ever for its time. The Islamic nations are not nearly as pwowerful as imperial japan was; we could bring them to submission with just a few warheads, I imagine. Tell them we are going to keep destroying your cities-every one, if we have to-until you find and help us get rid of the islamicists in your midst.

What's more amazing are those who suggested that Bin Laden and his ilk will stop their jihad if we stop supporting israel. Clearly they would have believed hitler when he said I just want to unify Germany and Austria, and that's all.

We know what they "want" from their various writings, up to and including Osama BinLaden's several declarations of war against the west. They want an Islamic world, nothing less. They want us to live as Afghanistan did under the Taliban. They don't care who dies to achieve that goal, even their own children. That is what we're up against.

Agreed. There is only way that we will lose the War on Terror ... Islam is by our own choice.

They want infidels to die.

They want an Islamic caliphate.

They want Islam as the one-world religion.

These aims are not compatible with the 21st century and there can be no negotiations. How much simpler can it be?

Islam is ideologically bent on world domination. It is time we stop treating this "religion" with kid gloves. When Communist ideology declared itself the enemy of freedom and democracy we were quick and correct to establish ourselves as enemies of Communism. We declared war on Communism on all fronts and we up the ante at every turn until Communism collapsed. It is time we do the same with this pseudo-religion. This is a world conquering, world dominating, world oppressing ideology that needs to be stopped NOW!

What Do (Islamic) Terrorists Want?

Armeggedon.

There are real grievances in the Arab world, some of our making some of theirs.

We have in the past supported Arab dictatorships , even Saddam in his war against Iran. The house of Saud a Dictatorial medieval dictatorship would of collapsed long ago if it wasn't for our support.

I would not be happy if a super power was supporting a dictatorship in my country.

But Osmar and his ilk are just vermin piggy backing on real grievances.

This is where Iraq becomes important, we need to create the first viable working democracy which is why we are in Iraq

. If it was a simple case of meeting terror with terror and it has never worked before, Japan was a special case and if you want I could go into a point by point discussion of why it was.

The terror will not work, because the terrorists don't care about the civilian population.

The most important aim we have is creating a Democratic Muslim Arab state, which hopefully will cause a domino effect throughout the Middle East.

Otherwise why are we in Iraq.

Saddam is gone there is no Iraq WMD or WMC capability.

We could withdraw and smash it from the air.

Also for those who skim read and are quick to freep because I recognize that there are real grievances against us, does not mean I condone the bombing.

I thought the IRA for years saw them as murdering terrorist scum, but still recogonised the real grievances of the Irish Catholic Nationalists community.

I think it's pretty clear what they want. The question is, what do we DO about it? Since the radicals are infiltrated with the non-radicals, I think it is the non-radical's responsibility to expose the rads. If they do not I think we can assume the rads have community support. If that is the case, internment or deportation are possible choices depending on how bad the situation becomes. For example, if a nuke went off in the US, I would not be surprised to see massive internment of Islamics along with deportation of any males between 13 and 50. What other course of action could there be?

The problem is, if we support them (Jordan, Egypt, Saudi) we get accused of supporting evil dictators, and if we don't support them (Iran, Syria, Libya) we get accused of waging war against the people of those countries.

So which is it?

re :So which is it?

It is what ever the situation dictates at the time.

The fact of the matter is that America has a controlling interest throughout the world.

You know border on every country.

Supporting dictatorships has worked in the short term only.

Building viable democracy's is a much more better way of maintaining your grip on the world.

Because of domestic apathy from lack of perceived personal individual threat, I fear it will be something as catastrophic as your scenario to galvanize the nation on a person to person level into true action. I pray such an event will not occur to force such action. If it does, all bets are off across the board. The world will not be the same in our lifetime, IMHO.

I agree 100%. But we have to prove to the people that when we go against their dictatorships, that's all we're doing.

It's unfortunate that it's against the interest of almost every other country in the world to see us achieve a democratic, free market ME. Even Europe doesn't want that, because of the competition and their view that the ME under dictators is "stable." I would dare say they're a tad arrogant.
