An Iowa man with white supremacist leanings was arrested after he told truck drivers over "citizens' band" radio that he was planning to set off a bomb in Washington, police said.
Terry Daniels, 44, was found at a roadside gas station about 100 miles (160 kilometers) west of Chicago at 3:45 a.m. after truck drivers called police with his license plate number and a description of which direction his blue Ford van was heading.
"We didn't find any explosives," Princeton, Illinois police chief Tom Root said. "We found a lot of documents like anti-government stuff and white supremacist stuff. There were suitcases of this stuff and we're still going through it all."
Root said Daniels, who may be using an alias, got on the short-wave radio system and started talking about how angry he was with the government and the Supreme Court. At around 3 a.m. he told truck drivers that he was planning on picking up explosives on his way to Washington to "take care of some business."
"He's definitely a very serious threat," Root said, adding that Daniels has a lengthy criminal history.
While Daniels appears to be a disturbed loner, the Secret Service is looking into possible ties to white supremacist groups, Root said.
Daniels was held on felony charges of disorderly conduct but police said they are hoping to upgrade them to federal terrorism charges. The FBI is also investigating.
No beer involved?
Didn't some joker years ago...park a white truck outside the Washington monument and threaten to blow it up?
White Supremacist?
Traditionally, haven't they always been Democrats?
The greatest danger to Western Civilization: drunken "white supremacists". Yes, sir, there are, how many, 1.2 billion of them? Oh, wait, no, 1.2 billion is the number of peace loving muzzlelimbs!
Much easier to go after this moron than radical islamics in the U.S. You get great PR and the ACLU will probably give them an award.

See.
It's not all Muslims.
I feel so much safer that this menace is captured.
Somewhere along the line, after the article was posted, this man became a drunk. I must have missed that. If he were driving drunk he may have been a threat to someone.
He would have succeeded, but he was too stubborn to ask for directions to Seattle.
I think this man qualifies for a Darwin Award.
Anyone want to take bets on what his reason for wanting to bomb Washinton D.C. is?
...got on the short-wave radio system...
Er... those are two different things. :)
Does this mean we have to invade Idaho for harboring terrorists?
Profiling white guy's does work. All middle eastern men may now get a free pass.
I had to look that one up. Wasn't aware we had a Freeper named everyone.
He / she doesn't appear to be very active.
Which Tom Clancy book had the white supremacists' truck break down on the way to bomb DC?
