Outrageous fortune: Greedy Gillette boss has nothin’ on our 2 senators (Kennedy/Kerry)
Boston Herald ^ | Wednesday, July 13, 2005 | Howie Carr

Posted on 07/13/2005 4:49:51 AM PDT by ninonitti

How come everyone is so bent out of shape about Jim Kilts of Gillette absconding with $162 million he basically didn't earn, after a mere 18 months or so at the helm of another expiring Boston-based corporation?

Granted, Kilts is a greed-crazed corporado, but it's not like he's the only guy living off big bucks that he had nothing to do with accumulating.

How about the two United States senators from Massachusetts, passing yet another pleasant Cape summer with the Beautiful People?

Here are the numbers on just their vacation residences:

Sen. John F. Kerry's mansion at 5 Hulbert Ave. on Nantucket. Assessed value: $10,778.400. Annual taxes: $35,568.72.

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy's mansion at 50 Marchant Ave., Hyannisport. Assessed value: $7,567,500. Annual taxes: $58,659.48.

Nobody ever complains about the fact that both of these guys are living off what the Democrats like to call ``unearned income'' - in Teddy's case, from his bootlegging father, and in Kerry's, from his second wife's first husband's grandfather's trust fund.

Ted's real estate records were sent to me by an anonymous source, or, as Mumbles Menino says, ``an enoromonous source.'' According to the Town of Barnstable's Web site, Ted took possession of his 2.43 acres on Dec. 15, 1983.

``Sale price: $0.''

Wow! I guess you could say Ted got in before the bubble started.

(By the way, here are some of the features in Ted's James Kilts-like compound: He has a sauna unit, a tennis court, and an elevator worth $13,100.)

And then, of course, there's Ted's Back Bay mansion, on fashionable Marlborough Street. And there was the house in suburban D.C. that he sold at an obscene (to use another Democratic perjorative) profit a few years back.

But let's face it, Teddy is a piker compared to his rich-old-widow stalking pal. If you google Hulbert Avenue, you come up with a veritable Who's Who of the Beautiful People hanging out there down by the seashore.

Abby Johnson, the Fidelity heiress. She inherited her money too, so she's obviously on the Kerrys' short list for cocktail parties. Abby's even allowed to use the bathroom inside; she doesn't have to venture out to the portable toilet in the front yard.

Wayne Huizenga, though he's another story. He owns used-car lots. That way to the porta-potty, you parvenu.

Of course, like the fleet of SUVs that he claimed didn't really belong to him, Liveshot doesn't own the Hulbert Avenue palace, any more than he owns his wrinkly bride's mansions in Idaho, or Pittsburgh or Georgetown. The owner of record is the ``Windy Point Trust,'' appropriate enough, considering what a windbag the junior senator is.

But why is it accepted that if you're an idle-rich, liberal empty suit, it's OK to enjoy the fruits of somebody else's labor and anybody who brings up the hypocrisy is a bounder? You're not supposed to even mention the irony of their incessant railings about ``windfall profits'' and the ``decade of greed.''

There's a lesson here for James Kilts. His impending $162 million payoff from Proctor & Gamble is new, thus dirty. In two generations, the Kilts fortune will be suitably laundered, and his grandson will be able to drown a young woman in a car and then run for president. Or his granddaughter can marry a gigolo, and the gigolo can then run for president, on your dime.

It's the American way. First Kennedy, then Kerry, so why not Kilts?

Nice to see the Murderer from Chappaquidick and the Up the River War Criminal dragged out for their summer beating at the hands of that fiend Howie Carr.

Hopefully he'll do another live show from Chappaquidick one of these days......cuz there's just no way that he'd be allowed anywhere near Nantucket

People wonder why these multi billion dollar takeover's of Massachusetts based companies result in the shut down of all Massachusetts operations when complete...

Gillette is going to China, as any place is better than here. The last thing on earth you want to be invested in is a large scale Manufacturing facility in Massachusetts.

This state is shedding the last of its manufacturing and many of its best working age middle class and their families.

We are a service economy, would you like to super size that...?

I would love to see the estate tax return for Joe Kennedy and see how much in estate taxes that were avoided by using generation skipping trusts, etc. I think full disclosure by a tax-lover such as Ted Kennedy is appropriate.

Obviously, Teddy is using the elevator more than the sauna and tennis court.

This is a great article. My first laugh of the day!

Kennedy and Kerry earned their money the old fashioned way - they married it or inherited it. They didn't rape the shareholders and loot their company for it.

So the Red Diaper Doper Baby Trust Fund crowd whines about greed. How appropriate all the members of the Black Cacucus are opposed to Vouchers and send their children to private school. You must be brain dead if you cannot see the hypocricsy of the Liberals. And Boxer and Pelosi's Hubbys make dough re me from IPOs and Takeovers. Two more hypocrites. Liberals think we are all stupid. That they know what is best for us. Then there is hyprocrit FemNag Queen Hitlery Clinton who is telling the rest of us what our children should eat. How appropriate the FemNags love Hitlery. She is their Heroine. She who enabled her serial groper Husband to bang interns, molest Females, and then blamed it on a vast Right Wing Conspiracy.

Hilliary oh Senator you were close it was Right something Bill's Right Hand. I am so disgusted with the degraded DemocSocialists Party. Who compare Gitmo to a Gulag. Hey Durbin kiss my butt. I am a registered Democrat. Truman Democrat and mad as hell at my Party. Tired of the Socialists, Communists, Anarchists, Terrorists, Quislings, and Traitors hiding in our Party.

You are right on that. She lived in Hyannisport and yet they let him do that. Try running that by the Mass Department of Revenue yourself.

Taxes are what the little people pay......

Abigail Johnson may be one of the richest women in the world, but at least she works. She's single, too...calling Senator Kerry...

From the article: "Abby Johnson, the Fidelity heiress. She inherited her money too, so she's obviously on the Kerrys' short list for cocktail parties.
