Mexican candidate says U.S. must liberalize immigration
Dallas Morning News ^ | 7/12/05 | Michelle Mittelstadt

While Mexico has enhanced security since the Sept. 11 attacks, future cooperation hinges on U.S. willingness to liberalize its immigration policies, former Mexican Foreign Minister Jorge Castañeda warned Congress on Tuesday. Mr. Castañeda, who is running as an independent in the 2006 presidential race, said security must be twinned with what he called the "whole enchilada" – legalization for the 6 million Mexicans living here illegally, visas for Mexicans desiring to come here in the future, and economic development for impoverished interior regions responsible for the exodus.

"There can be no future cooperation beyond what already exists without some form of immigration package," he told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee during a border security hearing.

Just as immigration is a volatile topic in the U.S., Mr. Castañeda said the idea of enhanced U.S.-Mexican cooperation on security issues, such as military-to-military involvement, is "very, very sensitive" to Mexicans.

"It is not easy for any Mexican government to move forward on that," he said. "It can be done in a package. If it's done in a sort of salami-type arrangement – slice by slice – I'm not sure it's going to work."

But Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., pointed to the difficulties inherent in enacting a massive immigration-and-security package and instead suggested that both countries tackle measured "confidence-building" steps.

"I can't agree with you that we have to do this in totality," Mr. Dodd said. "As a practical matter, it's just very difficult to anticipate Congress adopting large comprehensive proposals."

Oh, we MUST, must we?

I've got a better idea. Seal the borders.

Sheese, the way I see it, there are no restrictions on immigration. Just come on over, we will feed, house, and care for you. No problem.

"whole enchilada" – legalization for the 6 million Mexicans living here illegally,

Try 20 million, Jorge. ....at the very minimum.

....and economic development for impoverished interior regions responsible for the exodus.

More U.S. taxpayer billion$ funneled directly into the deep pockets of Mexican crooks, of course.

I have an idea ! How about if 6 million Gringos just go down and start setting up house in Mexico and doing whatever they want to once there . No visas . Just move on down and start
earning income any way they wish to.
Why not? Mexico feels it's people have the right to do that
with us , surely they would have no problem if Americans 6 million strong just peacefully invaded their country too.
Heck , we'd own the place in no time . Just likes the Mex's
will own this place in no time if we keep allowing this .

In other news, afnamvet farted in the general direction of Mexico. There were no casualities.

Can you come up with any reason why he should think differently?

Choke off all money wires between the US and Mexico for about a month and he will learn his place.

"Sheese, the way I see it, there are no restrictions on immigration. Just come on over, we will feed, house, and care for you. No problem."

And we will accomodate your language, help you with education expenses, give you free medical care and grant you amnesty for your illegal entry. In other words, we are giving you Texas and Southern California in return for your cheap labor.

If the Louisiana Purchase was a steal, the deal the Mexicans are getting is the land heist of all time.

I think Mexico should "liberalize" its oil industry before they lecture us about immigration.

This sounds like good old fashioned blackmail to me. We won't enhance our borders security unless you give us exactly what we want.
We can close our southern border with our military and leave you holding the bag of BS you are spewing.
I am all for putting a military corridor from the gulf coast of Texas to the California Pacific coast. After we slam the door on criminals entering our country we can start rounding up the ILLEGALS who are already here and sending their butts home. We also need to change the laws so that you are not an automatic citizen unless at least one of your parents are a legal citizen of this country. This has nothing to do with race, this has everything to do with sovereignty. It is Mexico's responsibility to deal with and take care of Mexicans. The USA has no responsibility in the welfare of Mexican citizens, either here or in Mexico.

In my own twin commie rags, stories are always being written about the glories of the wonderful illegals and the need for humane borders. These newspaper people are from a nother planet.
