Sen. McCain [R-AZ] Strong Words On Supreme Ct Nomination at Dallas Fundraiser: 'During the campaign, President Bush said he will appoint judges who will strictly interpret the constitution... thinking anything else is either amnesia or ignorance... elections have consequences... whomever he nominates deserves an up or down vote and no filibuster... and an up or down vote is what we will have'...
GREAT!
These Republicans are like a gumball machine. You have to put money in them to get them to act like you want. How about talking like this all the time.
Well said. McCain in running for president, and he knows he has to placate/ingratiate himself with conservatives in order to have any chance of winning the Repub nod.
Me thinks he already buried himself with the conservative base.
I see where you're coming from, but couldn't disagree more. I say another Scalia for ANYONE who retires. The Dems wouldn't replace Thomas with an O'connor. They would use it as an opportunity to stick a Ginsberg in our faces and step on it hard and rub it in real, real good.
A Thomas, Scalia Justice for anyone who retires. Period.
what??? did the good RINO fm AZ suddenly find his stones somewhere?
Talk is cheap; time will tell about him and all the other (so far...) wuss pubbies in the gang-of-100.
Well fundamentally, I agree with you: I don't trust him.
Here's how the McMeMeMe thing usually goes: he says something sane, the press pounces, he un-does any good he'd done, with interest.
So here's what I expect to happen:
He's now made his conservative, feisty-sounding blatt.
What happens next is that his his MSM fiends... er, friends... will press him with questions like, "Do you think the President should appoint a radical right-wing extremist to roll back forty years of social progress?", and "Should the Senate just be a rubber stamp for every president's whimsical impulses?"
And he, fool that I think he is, will oblige, and give them their new headline.
And then this one will be forgotten.
McCain promising war? All sound and fury....and a grope for relevance...
I guess he got burned by his backstabbing filibuster compromise with the devil.
Nice that he's toeing the party line. But I for one will never vote for this loose cannon and strongly urge the Republican voters of the great state of Arizona to flush this individual from office in the next primary.
I agree with you, he probably has no chance with conservatives, and his efforts at reaching out to us on issues like the court and immigration are as phony as Hillary's "move to center."
Agree with your analysis 100% -- we have been through this too many times with McCain!
Wonder how long it will take him to back off? Twenty-four hours and counting! :)
Sounds to me like McPain is running for President...
"whomever he nominates deserves an up or down vote and no filibuster"
Empty words from this Arizona Idiot who organised the Judicial Nominee failure of those Republican Traitors the last time!
Now that seems like a very accurate summary of what McCain will do.
"Once hurt, twice shy" -- or, in this case, "5348 times hurt, 'WAY shy."

I have so little respect for McCain that when I read the headline I just assumed he meant he would go to war with the democrats AGAINST Bush.
Guess I was wrong.
I need to be spanked...
The only surprise is Gonzalez being nominated in the first place..
i.e. IF McLaim and the democrats are FOR him there is something seriously WRONG with him...
Mclaim, the democrats, and Gonzalez should Not be questioned..
BUSH should be questioned.. on Gonzalez..
BUSH's Daddy was a TOOL of democrats too..
You know tool, like in, shill, mole, poseur, collaborator..
Heck, he's much worse. McCain is the McCain of the GOP!
I find it hard to believe that McLame got 70% of the vote after all of his antics since election 2000.
This time the blame goes on Frist for not taking the opportunity. You either act or react. Frist is the latter. Such a poor majority leader.
