Al-Zarqawi clashes with mentor over suicide attacks

Iraq's al-Qaeda leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi reproached his spiritual mentor for criticising suicide attacks in Iraq, saying this only weakened the jihad, according to an internet statement attributed to him on Monday.

Issam Baraqi, better known as Sheik Abu Mohammad al-Maqdisi, last week told Al-Jazeera television that random suicide bombings in Iraq were not valid and that it was wrong to "declare Shiites infidels or make them equal to Jews or Christians".

Al Qaeda Organisation for Holy War in Iraq, led by Zarqawi, has carried out some of the deadliest attacks against US forces, the Iraqi Government and forces and Shiite Muslims.

"This [criticism] does not harm me as much as it harms this jihad ... the blessings of which are apparent to anyone who has eyes," said the statement apparently signed by Zarqawi.

"Do not follow in the devil's footsteps or you shall perish, and beware, our virtuous sheik, from the cunning of God's enemies and from being lured into dividing the mujahideen [holy fighters]," said the statement posted on an Islamist website.

Zarqawi said he shared some of Maqdisi's beliefs but did not "follow him blindly". The Sunni Muslim militant has in the past defended the killing of innocent Muslims in suicide bombings, saying it was permitted by Islam for the sake of jihad.

Zarqawi has long been accused by US military and Iraqi officials of seeking to provoke a sectarian civil war in Iraq.

Last Tuesday, Jordan rearrested Maqdisi, who says he remains committed to Sunni orthodoxy, for alleged contact with terror groups. The arrest came a week after he was freed from six months behind bars.

Sources said the authorities were upset the cleric did not disavow Zarqawi although he criticised some of his methods.

Muslim scholars say Maqdisi's teachings have influenced Zarqawi's mindset since they shared a jail cell in Jordan. Both were freed in 1999 under a general amnesty, but Maqdisi was later detained in another case and Zarqawi went to Afghanistan.

Talk about frivolous savages. Nearly everyone remembers when people mocked medieval debates about how many angels can dance on the head of a needle. These guys would debate who is an infidel and when you can cut their heads off. Islam is in crisis and won't even address the lunacy it's let loose.

I made the mistake just now of dropping by Aintitcool, where some pinheads are debating the 9-11 movie Oliver Stone is making. Several of those Bush haters are quite eloquent but prove the point that enthusiasm is not equal to correctness--we're talking "Bush knew" and "The US armed Saddam" type stuff.

My point is, hatred for the US (and of COURSE these folks were calling each other great patriots and great Americans on that site) here and in Al Qaeda seems to have a focusing effect. With all the problems in the world, the "complexity" these sorts are always talking about, it comes down to "US = Bad". Even as they are saying some bewildering things ("I'm not saying the west is better than the Middle East but it's more open-minded towards minorities, women, etc."---how is that NOT BETTER???), they keep that focus on US = Bad.

That's why AQ is thriving in pockets while there are divisions in the ranks like this article talks about. You don't need to know anything except US = Bad to be an AQ member, a liberal, or an "open minded" hater who keeps saying over and over he's a real patriot.

He sang this to the tune of "Who Let The Dogs Out."

Someone once said a Liberal is someone who won't even defend his own argument, but I don't believe that. They'll defend any argument that is an attack on the US. I saw these interesting remarks in the Sunday Observer (The Guardian) and thought they were good advice for the "loyal" opposition.

"I feel the appeal, believe me. You are exasperated with the manifold faults of Tony Blair and George W Bush. Fighting your government is what you know how to do and what you want to do, and when you are confronted with totalitarian forces which are far worse than your government, the easy solution is to blame your government for them. But it's a parochial line of reasoning to suppose that all bad, or all good, comes from the West - and a racist one to boot. The unavoidable consequence is that you must refuse to support democrats, liberals, feminists and socialists in the Arab world and Iran who are the victims of Islamism in its Sunni and Shia guises because you are too compromised to condemn their persecutors. Islamism stops being an ideology intent on building an empire from Andalusia to Indonesia, destroying democracy and subjugating women and becomes, by the magic of parochial reasoning, a protest movement on a par with Make Poverty History or the TUC. Again, I understand the appeal. Whether you are brown or white, Muslim, Christian, Jew or atheist, it is uncomfortable to face the fact that there is a messianic cult of death which, like European fascism and communism before it, will send you to your grave whatever you do. But I'm afraid that's what the record shows." - Nick Cohen, writing Sunday in London's Observer.

Why don't we just send in a secret commando to brutally murder Al-Zarqawi, drag his body behind a car, and hang it from a bridge? That would either bring the terrorists to a halt or drive them into a mad frenzy. What do you guys think?

That's a great quote.

The libs and moral relativists think they have the luxury of all this "but who's REALLY the villain?" theorizing. They do, to an extent, because the militaries led by Bush and Blair which they so despise give them that luxury. But it's hypocritical to talk as they do when they know damn well if they were given the option of going and living in a nation where there were no soldiers and love and peace and PC and multiculti were the rule of law, the place would last ten minutes.

The only good thing about the Islamic fanatics is that fanaticism itself is self-defeating. They will just keep killing themselfs off and eventually they will run out of people... eventually.

"There are three ways to defeat your enemy. The first, and most obvious, is to better him in a trial of force. The best way is to have him destroy himself...The middle way is to destroy your enemy from within. Judicious application of the middle way shall make your blows more effective if you later take the way of force. From the middle way it is also possible to push your enemy onto the path of self-destruction."

Actually, my preference is that we drag his body behind a car, and hang it from a bridge, THEN we murder him. But hey, that's just me....

That's what gets me most about liberals- their complete unwillingness to distinguish between right and wrong. Across the board, from our enemies abroad to crucial domestic issues, they are just unwilling or unable to follow a coherent value system. And that attitude is no use when trying to run a country, raise a family, or deal with your fellow man.
