Some Chinese drill crew members already have arrived in western Colorado, preparing to start drilling for natural gas in the Piceance Basin.
An official with Denver-based Western Energy Advisors, which brokers arrangements for the Chinese crews and exploration and production companies, said he was unfamiliar with specific crews schedules, but that some crews and rigs could be expected to arrive in western Colorado now.
Several western Colorado residents on Wednesday reported seeing drill rigs arriving or being set up in the area.
Western Energy Advisors worked with federal agencies to arrange for visas for the Chinese crews, said Bill Croyle, a partner in Western Energy.
One hurdle the company had to clear was to show that the jobs couldnt be done by American citizens or legal residents.
That wasnt difficult to show, Croyle said, citing the loss of a million domestic jobs among major oil companies over recent years, as well as reductions among smaller employers.
Much of the domestic exploration and production industry is just gone, he said. Rigs have been trucked in from Canada and elsewhere for drilling in the United States.

"Are our EPA and environazis going to give the Chicoms drilling operations the same anal exams that drove our companies out of business?"
Evidently somebody is getting their 'cut'. From the Wash.Times
" The cost of drilling in Colorado has nearly doubled since last year, EnCana officials said. Rates increased from $8,500 per day to $14,000 per day in one year."

Or did the company only want to pay minimum wage to do a job that used to pay well?

"Golden Bear originally was a joint venture between China's Jilin Petroleum and a group of private oil and gas investors from Colorado, Texas and Oklahoma. But earlier this year, Jilin Petroleum sold its equity stake in the company, Croyle said. He declined to reveal the identity of the investors.
The Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade worked with Jilin Petroleum and others involved in setting up the joint venture, Golden Bear. The state agency met with partners of Western Energy Advisor last fall and earlier this year."

Americans lost "a million domestic jobs" and it proves that "the jobs couldnt be done by American citizens or legal residents"?

Bought property in the Grand Junction, CO area (western slope) awhile back. Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll discover natural gas on the property. This same area had a strong surge of oil shale development back in the '80's. Oil prices didn't remain high enough to sustain the exploration and development of these resources ... however, that situation is now reversing itself.

Those nasty Chinese built a lot of the railroads in the west too. They will work cheap and be glad to be outside of China.

That wasnt difficult to show, Croyle said, citing the loss of a million domestic jobs among major oil companies over recent years, as well as reductions among smaller employers. Having worked for one of the largest US producers, I can tell you that this is just false. There is no shortage of willing oil patch workers. They just won't work for minimum wage.

The company is the Chinese government. They will not deal with our labor laws nor will they be bound by our environmental laws.

Chinese Troops to follow? Chinese slave labor to follow?
I don't get it. If this operation has no profit potential for American companies, why is it attractive to the Chicoms?
Surely there is no allotment of green cards for Chinese slaves as part of the package???

Life keeps taking on twists. What's next, will we hear from a Chinese government official that chinese crews are doing the work blacks and mexicans won't do like Vincente Foxs remark about American blacks not wanting to work in the U.S. crop fields?

I have to wonder if the joint venture is just in the drilling or if it's a joint venture in the profits of the sale of the gas...
