Jihad Is Knocking: Another Episode in the War between Christendom and Islam - (sensational piece!)
VICTOR HANSON.COM ^ | JULY 10, 2005 | BRUCE THORNTON

Posted on 07/10/2005 9:19:10 PM PDT by CHARLITE

The slaughter in London is another grisly wake-up call that likely will go as unheeded as earlier ones. Already the standard narrative is being trotted out: evildoers created by what the New York Times predictably called the “root causes of terrorism”: autocracy, or economic stagnation, or Palestinian suffering, or globalization's dislocations, or Western historical sins, or the war in Iraq (the cause will depend on the political prejudices of the pundit) have “hijacked” Islam and distorted its peaceful message.

And now they are using Islam to justify murder in order to further their own ambitions or dysfunctional psychic needs. Given this explanation, so the story goes, we must be careful not to demonize all Muslims and assure them that we respect their religion and culture. The tale is then wrapped up with fierce threats against the terrorists and protestations of admiration for Islam.

Believing this delusion requires that one ignores fourteen centuries of Islamic jihad against the West, a war of conquest and colonization ratified by centuries of Islamic theology and jurisprudence. Indeed, what we call Islamic radicals are in fact Islamic traditionalists; it is the so-called “moderates” — those wanting to compromise Islam so it can coexist with Western ideas such as secular government, separation of church and state, and human rights — who are the radicals and innovators.

The terrorists are simply fulfilling the traditional and orthodox command of their religion to battle the infidels who resist the revelation of Mohammed and the global socio-political order mandated by Islam.

Listen to one of the most respected and influential of Muslim clerics, Sheikh Yousef Al-Qaradhawi, on the legitimacy of jihad:

The building at the center of the Kaaba is the house that Abraham and Ishmael built together

Thank you. This is a powerful story - and the ideas that flow from it are unexamined. I believe the myth of Abraham willingness to kill his son is a factor in ME suicide bombers. If you know the story, you have an opinion, what do you think?

Who is Bruce Thorton? It appears he is the author of this piece.

Good point, the article is from VDH's site, but was clearly written by a colleague, not VDH himself.

From http://www.fresnostate.net/Classics/Biographies.htm -

Bruce S. Thornton

Bruce S Thornton, a native of Fresno County, received his BA in Latin from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1975, and his PhD in Comparative Literature: Greek, Latin, and English, from UCLA in 1983.

etc...

No one freepmailed me.

Am I to understand that if one disagrees with you and some others on this thread, and agrees with Cultural Jihad, I am automatically assumed to have been summoned through freepmail? Okey-dokey.

Well, in that case, I must assume that the desire is for no dissent. Talk amongst yourselves.

That is one of the basis for the "martyr" philosophy. But, having read the Koran twice now, I can tell you that that incident is not the only cause. There are many more shuras that exhort similar behavior.

Regarding your post 121, I loved this statement
"In our cafeteria way of dealing with religion (where everyone picks and chooses the parts of the Bible (or any other religious book) that they want to stress - Muslims chose this part. The part the reinforces blind authority."

cheers

I think the inability for these fair weather 'patriots' to process that question is more terrifying than the terrorists.

True. I think some of them do understand, but for whatever reason will not stand up and say so. All I can think of is all appeasement did for Hitler's victims during WWII.

Also keep in mind that some folks like to play games. Their goal is for you to lose your temper, then they hit the abuse button. Sweet, huh?

That's silly. This thread is all about dissent. Besides, if y'all do or don't freep mail each other about threads makes no difference to me. Ideas stand on their own.

I'm still waiting to hear how you're going to stop the next attack without draconian measures like eavesdropping on innocent people and sneak and peek operations. I trust that you plan to allow Big Brother unlimited power so that your little tootsies can be safe. Would you permit 50 caliber rifles to be banned? Would you infiltrate American militia groups who're angry about domestic policies that lead to American children being bombed and porous borders that lead to increases in crime and cultural disunity? What price are you really willing to pay?

I've heard that George Washington used to pretend to be angry in order to make certain rhetorical points and accomplish goals on behalf of the nation.

Usually that particular poster contacts other people. Posters get summoned by FReepmail often enough, so when someone pops up on a thread, it's my first thought. If this isn't you, my apologies. Dissent is fine and dandy, but what we're discussing is safety and security in our own countries. When posters come up with no solutions, refuse to answer a question, and say the same thing over and over again, it is not accomplishing anything.

I have a question for you. Since there is documented proof that America and England have operating terrorist cells, how would you neutralize the threat they represent?

PS: remember that the black robed goons on the Supreme Court, insist that the Constitution is a "living document".

Well, the general method in this country is that when we have identified terrorist cells, we arrest them. (Examples: the cell in Buffalo, and the Black Islamic militants in the northwest).

The general procedure for this is identify, arrest, prosecute, and imprison. Is there something I am missing? Is there some other procedure you think would be better?

Sometimes it does make a difference. Ever wonder why threads get pulled, or end up in the Smokey Back Room?

Big Brother has been swatting Americans down for years. Those who refuse to bawl like sheep, are arrested or shot. It's been happening for years. If you are a law abiding gun owner, they know what kind of guns you have, and where they are. They track your comments made on forums such as these. They'll take your picture at rallies and protest gatherings.

They have gotten around our "constitutional duty and obligation" to form militias. Form a militia, and pretty soon you'll get busted for income tax evasion or possession of child porn. Many Americans see the danger that has been unfolding for decades. Now we have a Jihad waiting to happen in our own backyard. Why didn't the 9/11 attacks cause our government to immediately lock down the border, and aggressively seek out all illegals, and deport them? Why are they too busy hooking up traffic cams to nail people running a stale yellow light? Why are they trying to register ammo to legal residents and citizens? Why haven't they infiltrated the mosques and deported those who call for our destruction, on our own soil?

Too many questions, bad answers...

They're terrorists. Do we want them in the general prison population? Do we want them to tie up the court system? Do we really want their confederates planning jail breaks?

Now how long are these terrorists going to sit in our jails, cooling their heels on our dime, while prosetylizing to the captive audience?

I suppose we could build Myanamar style camps, if they won't leave voluntarily. They are incompatible with American society by nature of their belief system. They want us dead or dhimmed. I think this is the part that you are missing. If they are not citizens, deport them if they've just been running off their mouths. If they are citizens preaching death and destruction, initiate the death penalty for treason. How does that sound?

The “root causes of terrorism” is elite Saudis with more money than brains.

The rulers of Islamic countries, especially the oil producing ones have become rich and jealous of their wealth. They push the Wahhabist sect because it is one of fatalism and submission so that they don't fight against their miserable lot in life; they only fight against the 'infidel'. The imams preach 'Jihad' to keep their young men occupied with visions of holy war on the West to deflect the fact that they've been ignored by their own rulers, and that their rulers have not shared the wealth of the oil with their own people. They don't want to give them any ideas of internal rebellion.
