Bush aide Rove was Time reporter's source-Newsweek

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Top White House advisor Karl Rove was one of the secret sources that spoke to reporters about a covert CIA operative whose identity was leaked to the media, Newsweek magazine reported in its latest edition.

The magazine said Rove's lawyer, Robert Luskin, confirmed that Rove talked to Time magazine about former ambassador Joseph Wilson and his wife, CIA agent Valerie Plame.

Luskin said Rove recently gave Time magazine reporter Matt Cooper permission to testify about the conversation to a grand jury investigating the leak in 2003, according to Newsweek.

A U.S. federal judge ordered Cooper, along with New York Times reporter Judith Miller, to testify and reveal their confidential sources.

Last week Cooper avoided a jail sentence for contempt of court by agreeing to testify in the case. Miller refused to testify and was jailed.

The case has become an important test involving freedom of the press and has pitting the media's traditional use of anonymous sources against the efforts of a federal government prosecutor to investigate a possible crime.

It is illegal to knowingly reveal the identity of an undercover CIA agent.

Although Rove has made statements about the Plame leak, he has never publicly acknowledged talking to any reporter about the CIA agent.

Rove has carefully chosen his words when questioned about the leak. "I didn't know her name. I didn't leak her name," he told CNN last year when asked if he had had anything to do with it.

Bullpucky!

Valarie Plame should resign for sending her husband to Niger to cook intelligence. She and he are a disgrace.

A pair of glory hounds putting their own stardom ahead of the country.

They belong in the Rosenberg wing of the Traitor's Hall of Fame.

Didn't have to give her name. When you identify someone's spouse, there are many ways to get that person's name.

Here's the facts:

Wilson was not exactly a friend of the administration.

Rove had no business telling someone his wife was a CIA employee.

Seems like an obvious retaliation. If Clinton did this we'd have multiple threads talking about what is means.

Rove let this BS of an investigation go for months because he didn't have the balls or ethics to step up and claim responsiblity for what others were being charged with.

Those of us who are too loyal to see the truth are just as despicable as the liberals.

I guess it's okat then especially if you don't like her husband and your one of the most powerful people on the planet. What Rove did was at least wrong, if not illegal. And his ducking and covering for months while these psuedoinvestigations went was also wrong. You know, in the ethical and moral sense.

the claim was regarding rove being innocent of being the leak when it was first claimed he was (i.e. he was or was not the leak, those claiming he was innocent of leaking may be wrong, etc). Nowhere did I bring up criminal intent or even criminal context. from what I am reading from his lawyer's quotes, he might not even have committed a crime.

Yep, Rove did nothing wrong so he should resign but these two traitors are a separate issue.

If traitor Valarie hadn't of sent her husband off to Niger to do her dirty work, Rove wouldn't be an issue.

If the media focused on the treachery of the Plames, Rove wouldn't be an issue at all.

So, Rove can resign after the Plames and the majority of the Lamestream media as far as I'm concerned.

Rove is responsible for Rove and they're responsible for themselves. Separate issues. You don't establish your innocence by pointing out that others are crooks.

Yeah, Michael Issakof is all breathless over this email. Apparently it proves that Karl Rove flushed a Koran down a toilet.

I can see why you've been banned 6 times.

well, that certainly makes Rove's actions okay. I'm a friend of the Clintons, so Rove gets a pass. Good stuff. Where do you teach your logic class, so I can warn people off. Your comments are in the Nyah, nyah, nyah category.

Absurd. This is nothing about nothing. NO ONE was compromised. Just because these lying PoS keep saying Plame was a "secret agent" does NOT make it so. She was just a bureaucrat.

Rove did nothing illegal or wrong so get off your high horse.
