Colorado Congressman touts immigration reform, may run for president (Tancredo)

A Colorado congressman pushing for immigration reform is in Iowa, and he says he'll launch a presedential campaign if no other candidates takes up the cause.

Republican Congressman Tom Tancredo is appearing at a breakfast reception this morning in Dubuque.

"Porous borders allow people into this country who have things on their mind other than just trying to get a job. They are coming here to do very bad things. They are coming to kill you and me and my kids and yours," Tancredo says."If we don't control our own borders, then we can't possibly hope to really be terribly succesful in this 'War on Terror'"

Tancredo says unfortunately, the Bush Administration has failed to seal-up the borders. Tancredo says it's because many U-S businesses are "hooked" on the cheap labor provided by illegal immigrants. He says that ready supply of "illegal" workers is having an effect on legal U-S residents.

"People in the lower income brackets have not had an actual increase in their income in over 10 years. In real dollar terms, it's decreased. Thats never happened before and there's a reason," Tancredo says. "It's supply and demand."

Tancredo says anyone who is a candidate for president should address the issue, but if they equivocate, he will step in himself.

"It is imperative that we actually have a chief executive who is willing to actually confront this issue head on," Tancredo says. "If we get no one else to take up the banner with their heart and with their lips, then I will (run for president)."

Tancredo was in Davenport Thursday night and made stops in Cedar Rapids and Cedar Falls Friday.

Shades of Bob Dornan, who "ran for president" back in 1996 and lost his congressional seat the same year.

I love ya, Tommy, but first things first, you know?

If/when we get hit by another heathen atrocity, it'll make Tancredo look like a prophet. I've looked at his House web site - we could do much worse*mumble*as far as candidates go*mccain*.

I know lots of Democrats who would support his run based on his illegal stance. People are sick to death of open borders and being overrun with mexicans.

I'm far more upset with allowing muslims in.

We need Tancredo!!

Like a hole in the head, or maybe like tom's specialty, running to the liberal media and backstabbing Tom Delay.

If you can provide somebody within the GOP of similar views to TT, but with greater electability potential, I'll be happy to review the name or names and see if we could put him or her forward in 2008. Maybe we could come to agreement.

Bob Dornan lost his seat thanks to - you guessed it - to illegal alien vote fraud.

One man has more power than any other to determine how much traction Tancredo gets. His name is Bush.

Go knock yourself out to support someone who would backstab Tom Delay so brazenly.

Bush ain't running in 08.

Personally my choice is Sen. George Allen.

Here's where they place him on that chart. I'd say he's not too far off from about 80% or more of the Freepers perhaps. I know his views on Immigration are probably in tune with 95% of Freepers, at least those who participated in polls on Illegal Immigration.
