It's a faulty assumption, that all individuals who profess belief in partial or entirely leftist political ideals, are as utterly idealogically hardened as Gary Scneider's Reality Check would imply... he is describing the indoctrinators. There is no hope of changing them. I am, more or less, talking about day to day people, who have accepted the marketing hype, who just want to appear intelligent, who want to be cool, who really haven't gone to such lengths to acquire their opinions. To turn their little status display around, to make it sound ill considered, and to make them choose between two conflicting ideals that they've unquestioningly accepted, is a very solid approach, and one that has been successful for me, personally, in dealing with similar situations as experienced by the woman who called into Rush Limbaugh. If you actually accept what you've posted as being applicable to every person on the political left, well... we really don't need to be having this discussion, now, do we?

What should society do, when parents decide to abort the fetus because the fetus tests positive for the homosexuality gene?

This is one I have thought about too. If a genetic basis for homosexuality is found, then homosexuality will be wiped out in a generation. No parents, except for homosexual ones, (and this is hard to imagine) would desire to birth a child with this afliction. (This is why I strongly suspect it is a womb related cause, because I believe a tendency does exist from early childhood and I cannot imagine anyone choosing this before trying normalcy either.) When society finds the chemical compound the mother should or shouldn't take during pregnancy then it will be wiped out too. And I am all for this.

I appreciate the inconsistancies in positions of the left. (The stock market investor who believes in social security as it currently exists, the leftist who is against defense, and the military in general who sees terrorism striking in the heart of London...)

I love Rush. He is so superior in content to most anyone else on the airwaves.

Certainly he is head & shoulders above that shameless, wine swilling inside-the-beltway dilettante, Ann Coulter. Frankly, the only reason anyone likes Ann is cause she is a blond. As an intellect, Rush gets an A, and Victor Davis Hanson an A+!

Anne gets a C-. Some one needs to tell that young lady to shape up!

No, we don't.

Liberals have chosen which side of the gulf they're on. And I'm not interested in changing their minds. I only want to defeat them, totally.

After reading all of Ann Coulters books, I disagree.

She's a great fighter in this debate. And she doesn't care whose ox she gores.

From the TRANSCRIPT itself "Why are you laughing at us? What's so funny?" And you say, "I can't believe what you guys are saying. I really can't believe the way you think." And then they'll start, "What do you mean?" And then they've led you into it. You haven't confronted them."

Oh yes you have. That's all I'm saying.

Sounds like she works at or attends my alma mater, in Poughkeepsie NY!

THAT'S exactly what I do.

I'm an Irish girl, living in Ireland...and when a political argument starts up in the pub (as it invariably does)...I laugh, and look incredulous at my opponent.

COMPLETELY unnerves them. I win! Hands down. Every time. They end up changing the subject out of frustration. And then, just before we go home for the night, I ask them...'What was that you were saying earlier on? Gave me such a laugh. I love to go home to bed on a chuckle'!

:-)

I really like the fact Rush has nailed the progressive label as a disguise.

I would be ENORMOUSLY amused if he called himself America's True Progressive just to tweak the left.

After all he is America's Anchorman.

This is just great. I only got to listen to Rush for a few minutes today, and, wouldn't you know it, it was during this call.

Next time you post a transcript from Rush's show, could you make it something I haven't heard before? ;)

Rush is going to cause this young woman to be out of a job

Not necessarily. I was in the Environmental Toxicology department--the name alone tells you what kind of people worked there. I didn't hide the fact that I am a conservative (probably the only one in the department), yet I survived there not only until I got my PhD, but through a post-doc, too. For me, what happens in this situation, when the conservative speaks up, is that the liberals tend to be more careful about the tripe they spout. Some of them might even worry that the conservative won't be their friend any more.

Since the caller was from Poughkeepsie, the liberal arts college I believe she was referring to was my old alma mater, Vassar College. The president, Fran Ferguson has blasted the Bush administration in speeches to the students.

I agree with you.

Since, as my screen name implies, I used to be one of them, since I live in an area slowly being filled with even more liberals and since my husband and I have two businesses that are in niches they think are reserved for them alone, I deal with liberal-think daily from people who assume we will agree.

I simply shake my head slowly and say:"I used to agree with that, but I simply don't any longer." DH has an ability to turn their rants back upon them with a mild, innocent question or two and cause them to visibly have to stop and try to think.

I think it unnerves them to have spouted off and find that people who, by all external markers, *should* be on their side, no longer are. They go quiet. You can see their minds chewing on this *impossibility*.

We have had a few come back and tell us that they have encountered something that caused them to rethink a point or two. For example, a local, highly respected RN who was deployed to Afghanistan has given several talks around the county to various groups of med staff about her experiences there. She highlights that this is a human rights issue and that we are the good guys. She always states that there is no oil in Afghanistan. She is quite open about having been in situations where she had to shoot & kill someone who was targeting her or her facility. It has caused several folks to admit they were spewing talking points w/o any reality reference.

I tend to concentrate on economic issues. I usually point out how successful we were under Reaganomics and how Bush's tax cuts have helped us. It is pretty easy to refute the Greens by just ostentatiously looking around at our beautiful land, clean river and pristine air and asking them to point out the degradation. For the Smart Growth crowd, I have lately been laughing at them and asking if they think the developers couldn't get a State or Federal court to declare any township zoning law null and void in the name of higher tax revenues. I reference a landowner who is building several spec houses on his own land and ask them how their Smart Growth rules would have any effect on his activities, since he is developing 20-acre sites within their own stated guidelines. (He has had angry neighbors yell at him about bringing more people into the area). It does tend to shut them up, at least.

Still, it takes all my self control not to rip the anti Bush stickers off their cars.
