He must have gotten some really, really bad private polls back..
The other good thing is that now that Indiana has a GOP governor, I don't look for Lugar to serve out his full term after re-election..Maybe after the 2008 election, he retires..Pence gets appointed..then he can run in 2010 as an incumbent.....
Daniels is so far doing a great job, but there is some resentment because of the new Colts stadium, Daylight Savings Time, etc.
I would rather we have Someone run for Lugar's seat in 2008 and have Lugar announce his retirement early enough that our candidate gets a good start.
I'll never forgive him for DST.
Richard Green "Dick" Lugar
Pembroke College, Oxford England, Rhodes Scholar, 1956.
Being a Rhodes Scholar and upholding conservative principles (not to mention defending the US Constitution) are mutually exclusive positions.
Can't serve two masters.
Elaborate for a non-Hoosier. He implemented DST?
If Lugar is going to retire after 2008, I would rather he announce that he is retiring at the end of his current term. That way whichever Republican is going to run gets a good start.
And the Daylight Savings Time thing has caused a lot of resentment, as can be seen by The Old Hoosier's comment. LOTS of people are irritated by that (even me, and I am a big Daniels supporter).
I hope this makes things clear. I am leaving for a while...will check back later.
Daniels will not win reelection.Period.
More on the Governor's Gay Rights Policy
As you might imagine, my e-mail on Wednesday has caused a little bit of
a
stir surrounding Governor Daniels' enactment of an employment policy
which
grants special rights to people engaged in homosexual behavior or cross
dressing. I want to follow that up with a new development and include
contact info for all those who are troubled by his actions.
The same night I was writing that weekly e-mail, the Governor's former
campaign manager, and a current advisor, gave a speech before a large
GOP
dinner in Indianapolis. From the reports I have heard, he shocked many
by
telling the group that the way to grow the Republican party was to
reach out
to those with "alternative lifestyles." He then singled out City
Council
Member Scott Keller and praised him for being the lone Republican to
support
a pro-gay rights ordinance. That radical ordinance was defeated on an
11-18
vote when several African-American Democrats joined the other 13
Republican
council members (many of whom were present at the dinner) in killing
the
measure. His comments generated a lot of dismay, particularly, (I'm
told)
from several tables of mostly African-American ministers. In fact, the
reaction of the crowd appeared to leave the speaker speechless and
off-balance for several minutes.
This was a demonstration of the risk of offending the base of the party
by
embracing a liberal gay rights agenda. The party leadership could reach
out
to the much larger group of swing voters and conservative Democrats who
agree with most Republicans on issues like traditional marriage or
cultural
threats to children. Instead, a few people close to the Governor seem
determined to actively go after the 4% of the population engaged in
homosexuality that leans heavily to the political far left. Considering
that
many observers attribute the Democrat's loss of the Indiana House to
their
blocking of the marriage protection amendment, this move by the
governor is
certainly odd.
You can send Governor Daniels an e-mail message about his new
employment
policy that gives homosexuals and cross-dressers special rights by
clicking
on this link:
http://www.in.gov/gov/contact.html
You can leave a message by Calling: 317-232-4567
You can send a letter to:
Governor Mitch Daniels
Indiana State House
200 West Washington Street
Indianapolis, Indiana 46204-2797
Just as a reminder, consider how we are automatically, and usually
unfairly,
portrayed by the other side. Thus, remember to be polite. Our
opposition to
this policy is pointed toward the extreme political agenda of the
gay-rights
activists, not toward homosexuals themselves. No one supports
mistreatment
of others, neither do we support endorsement of a dangerous sexual
behavior
from the very highest level of state government.
Internet Safety Seminar for Parents
I want to let you know of a very important seminar on the topic of
Internet
safety. Noblesville police Detective Mike Widner will lead a
presentation
instructing parents on how they can protect their children from
Internet
predators and beware of the dangers on the information highway.
Officer Widner is a part of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task
Force.
He is an expert in internet investigations and crimes involving child
solicitation. Widner testified at the state house this session on two
of the
bills AFA supported to protect children. His presentation is a must see
for
parents or grandparents of young children.
The free seminar is Thursday, June 9 at 7 p.m. at Harbour Shores Church
located at 8011 East 216th Street in Cicero. (Harbour Shores is located
on
216th between State Rd 19 and Stringtown Pike, just South of Cicero and
north of Noblesville.)
For more information on this event, contact Pastor Steve Schultze at
317-984-5552. If you would like to attend, please RSVP to the church by
the
9th through that phone number or by e-mailing: email@harbourshores.org.
Good News: Offensive Sex Survey Shelved in Bloomington!
Several weeks ago I reported on a sexual survey which was planned for
Monroe
County school children as young as sixth grade. As you may recall, I
warned
parents of the potential dangers of some of these explicit surveys and
asked
them to contact their school.
The administrators have now decided to pull the survey following
several
complaints from parents. The school system will review the survey over
the
summer in light of these concerns and revisit the issue next school
year.
Thanks..as always..be well..
Lugar is up in 2006. That's what this thread is about.
"Lugar is up for re-election in 2008. So is the Republican governor. Counting on Lugar to get elected and then retire so that a Republican governor gets to appoint Pence is very iffy, IMHO."
"Elaborate for a non-Hoosier. He implemented DST?"
Thanks for the comments..please expand..what don't you "believe" about Pence..that he wants to be in the Senate, and/or that he'd be named to the seat if Lugar retires?...As I wrote earlier..whcih you may have seen..I can see him as Speaker in a few years..he might prefer that to the Senate..and there's been a lot of talk, well..some talk..about him for VP in 2008..what would best position him..?
