"Elaborate for a non-Hoosier. He implemented DST?"
I'm not a Hoosier either, but I can tell you that last I heard Indiana was split between the Eastern and Central Time Zones, and the portion of Indiana on Eastern Time (all but the NW corner, I believe) did not participate in Daylight Savings Time so that for the 6 months from April to October the entire state of Indiana was on the same time zone as Chicago. I guess that Daniels signed a law that instituted Daylight Savings Time in the Eastern Time Zone part of Indiana, and that now the state has two different time zones all year round.
Could any Hoosier FReepers confirm my speculation?
And could they tell me why having Daylight Savings Time in all of Indiana is so unpopular?
Because DST is absolutely pointless. It's just the government reaching into another part of your life to tell you what to do. The majority of us don't want to have to lose and gain an hour, screwing up our sleep schedules like the rest of the country. Indiana was one of the last bastions of sanity on this issue. Now it's just Arizona and Hawaii.
Daniels is a big statist disappointment. But I knew he would be. That's why I voted libertarian. I'm not drinking the "small, less intrusive government" kool-aid that the Republicans are trying to sell any more.
