I am just not buying these "en masse" resignation stories.

Hmmmmm ... Sounds as if someone told SCOTUS to get out of town before dark. ;)

If this happens it is just more evidence that Bush bombed London to distract from the Supreme Court nomination process.
The above is the conspiracy of the day at DU

If true, this could get really wild. The dems will go completely ballistic because Bush will be able to shape the court for generations. Sounds good to me.

Holy cow. Rehnquist AND Stevens!???
To: LexHoskin
If true, I won't be shedding any tears. All but one should resign, IMO.

If there's ANY truth to this... start lining up the meat-wagons on Capitol Hill and keep the engines running. Better yet... set up a triage-unit on the floor of the Senate... fat Teddy's heart is 'gonna blow!

A reliable Hill source tells me: "I was just told that Stevens had two clerk interviews this past Tuesday for the 2006 Term." Doesn't sound like someone who is resigning.
Update: Though Bill Kristol just repeated the two-more rumor on Fox (9:20).

The New London decision showed that Stevens needed to retire immediately.

FDR packed the court his way.

It'd be awesome if this were true, and Ginsberg had to step down before the President Bush's term is over.
She is 75 years old, I think.

Here's to hoping this rumor becomes reality. Not holding my breath though as I think the libs on the SCOTUS will hang on, like pit bulls, till the bitter end and will only leave the court feet first.

The RATS worst fear that Bush will get to do what they did under FDR, packing the court, is possibly coming true. We are going to witness some of nastiest politics since Jefferson used the press to attack federalism.

I heard Tony Snow say that there is no way Stevens would retire while there is a Republican president. He is going to wait until there is a Democrat president to replace him with one his own kind (a lib). That is, IF he lives that long!!

Two resignations today, Rehnquist & Stevens...... Just a few days ago I was saying that Stevens won't retire under a Republican president unless he has already been dead for a week. I guess I must have missed the news of him passing away while I was on vacation.
