TWO? REALLY? [K. J. Lopez] All I'll say is I've talked to more people this morning who are prepping for the possibility than I thought would ever be taking it seriously. Posted at 09:00 AM

FOR PETE'S SAKE [K. J. Lopez] In the last half hour the new rumor that is keeping political geeks awake: Rehnquist and Stevens resign tomorrow. (Up until a little ago, the buzz was Renquist, as I noted in Bench Memos.) Posted at 10KùOÅ5 PM (yesterday)

I think the same thing about Gingsberg but she may be carried out before then. I was shocked to see how bad she looked! Can you imagine Hillary if she left during a Bush Administration? This is getting funnier by the minute.

Stevens has been in bad health for a while...oddly enough, that may well induce Ginsbuirg to go now..look, if W gets 3 nominees..a 4th one won't make a difference in the votes..so she may well bail...and with a hearing also for the CJ..well...5, count em..5..Senate hearings...gawd..we'll need more bandwith..

If Ginsberg and Stevens left as well as Rehnquist, I think that Planned Parenthood, NARAL, NOW, and all of the dems, would actually gear up with battle gear and start shooting, they would go so far over the edge!!!

LOL---I would love to see that!

"You have got to be kidding if you think LBJ or anyone like him would squash John McCain -- never would happen. That man marches to his own beat and no others. He is too arrogant for the likes of LBJ because there is one difference today -- facetime on TV and McCain gets plenty.

I would agree with your comments about LBJ and McCain if it was back in the 60's but not today."

LBJ couldn't stop him from being on TV.

But he would sure as hell make sure that he doesn't have a gavel....or any federal money....or an office....and that any part of his life he wants kept private would be on the Drudge Report, that he was NEVER recognized to speak on the Senate floor, etc., etc., etc.

Do a little research on what LBJ did to Leland Olds who was in the lineup to get a rather minor Presidential appointment. LBJ destroyed him, personally, professionally and in every possible way....for only one reason: to make sure that people knew LBJ was in charge.

Look, I'm not defending LBJ in every respect. Or really in any respect. What I am saying is that there is a lot of (perhaps dormant) power in the majority leader office. But we have a majority leader who has let other senators run wild, with absolute impunity.

As for McCain...while we all know that he is a loose cannon, I don't think he is really all that formidable. I just think he's an a-hole. A tough majority leader could in fact inflict a lot of pain on him and make his life quite miserable. I for one would not weep were that to happen. But I also know it won't happen with this majority leader....Now, if your guy Coburn got the majority leader office...then things might be a little different....

A reliable Hill source tells me: "I was just told that Stevens had two clerk interviews this past Tuesday for the 2006 Term." Doesn't sound like someone who is resigning.

Sounds a little late to be interviewing clerks. When I was in law school, one of my classmates was hired by O'Connor. She already knew by May that she'd be clerking.

I am serious. There are 3 reasons that Bush bombed London. He needed to distract attention from the SCOTUS nomination process. He needed to distract attention from the coming Karl Rove indictment. And to distract from the DSM.

LOL!!! This place will explode -- what are the doom and gloomers going to do then. I really believe Kennedy will swing back to the Scalia/Thomas side with no support on the left -- she just may go. I am not sure Teddy can survive this! :) Daschle may be thanking Thune for beating him!

LOL! I guess that "Rush Limbaugh Pres. for life" comment would be taken seriously over there. Yes, it was kind of a tingling sensation in my case. A cross between an electric jolt and a nervous flutter.

Did you know that Dr. Tom is on Judiciary? I think that is awesome and why I am not worried about getting a strict constructionist on the Supremes. I would take him or Inhofe as Majority Leader in a second. Neither one backs down! We would have had Don Nickles if Lott hadn't double crossed him. I would take Jeff Sessions too!

Inhofe went out campaigning for President Bush in 2000 during the primaries against McCain he was so disgusted with McCain.

I have always thought so too, but for some reason, even with all of the new people that Fox hires, she just keeps her place...and at a premium time slot also...go figure!

I am sitting here laughing at the prospects. Guess we are not going to be getting the doom and gloomers with there is no difference in the two parties on this thread!

Speaking of Rove-gate---from some of the reactions by the libs in England, and possibly here, they may be actually proving Rove's point about how they view war against terror, versus the conservatives!!!

Instead of being angry at the terrorists, they are angry with Bush for starting war in Iraq, not spending enough money for ANYTHING, and any thing else they can find to blame Bush for...

I havne't heard one lib come out and say "enough is enough", this has got to stop, now lets all get on the same page and do it!

O'Connor = Rogers Brown
Rehnquist = Estrada
Stevens = Luttig

If Bush achieved this, I could finally rest easy for the future of my children.
