TWO? REALLY? [K. J. Lopez] All I'll say is I've talked to more people this morning who are prepping for the possibility than I thought would ever be taking it seriously. Posted at 09:00 AM
FOR PETE'S SAKE [K. J. Lopez] In the last half hour the new rumor that is keeping political geeks awake: Rehnquist and Stevens resign tomorrow. (Up until a little ago, the buzz was Renquist, as I noted in Bench Memos.) Posted at 10KùOÅ5 PM (yesterday)
wish - to see dems heads explode - Bush should make an offhand comment that while he has an open mind as to the kind of SC replacements he will seek, that obviously it is his highest priority that the candidates have a deep reverence for Life and have shown that in their character and opinions... (Whack!, Bang!, Smash! Zowie! Thwack!)
Ping......................
The above is the conspiracy of the day at DU
You have got to be kidding me! Do those idiots ever read what they post and see how outlandish they sound? These people think they need to run the country for pete's sake! Is it any wonder there membership is ¼ of FR's? Does anything ever happen in the world without the evil Bush or conservatives getting together to take over the world?
Lindsey Graham, a master of the Senate? Your kidding right?
"it is particularly sickening to hear the so-called conservatives express this nonsense and show so little faith in a great leader."
I am a conservative, and I do not expect to get everything I want. For instance, I do not expect to see Roe vs. Wade overturned in my lifetime, Yet, I am disappointed by President Bush's leadership on many fronts. I understand that his "above it all" approach is favored by most people, and helped get him re-elected - but he's re-elected now, and I keep waiting for the gloves to come off... and waiting... and waiting...
The last time I remember President Bush really being impressive as a leader was after 9/11. Since then, he has inexplicably failed to do anything about sealing the borders, seems to be sitting back watching Iraq turn into "Groundhog Day" on a daily basis, didn't do crap when Terry Schiavo was murdered by his own government, and has nothing but nice things to say about Democrats. What happened to school vouchers? What happened to reforming the frigging tax system to get rid of the IRS (oh, what a glorious day THAT would be!)? For that matter, what happened to our constitutional rights, which seem to be vanishing at an alarming rate under his watch? He signed away the our first amendment rights by approving "campain finance reform," and when our property rights were snatched away from us a week or two ago, I don't remember hearing him utter a word about it... nah, just a speech regurgitating his "why we should stay the course in Iraq" stump speech.
Just to be clear, i think he's a very good man, and the Iraq war will, ultimately, reshape the history of that region for the good - and I would vote for him a third time (if I could!) - but that doesn't stop me from being very frustrated by some of the things I think he could have said or done that he hasn't.
LOL!!! Everything is breaking news on Fox News!
Assume it's true...I think that means that for CJ, you will have a nominee from inside the Court..either Scalia or Thomas..that means FOUR, count'em.... four Senate hearings...let's see the Dems oppose all four nominees..
There is a greater chance of an asteroid hitting tomorrow than TWO more court retirements.
WOW!!! That's the first time I've been ZOTTED. It felt good!! ;)
I don't think Gingsberg looks very well at all. I think Kennedy will swing back toward conservatives with more on the court since he goes back and forth. I don't think he has the nerve to stand with only two or three -- he will go with the majority which he does most of the time anyways.
Mastery of the Senate was intended to reference LBJ...who was a superb majority leader (though obviously intensely corrupt and a communist). But a conservative version of LBJ would be helpful here. Such a majority leader would squash the Lindsey G's and McCain's of his own party, not to mention what he would have done long ago to the other side.
I know what you mean I am listening to Tony Snow, but I have the TV on low, but that News Alert thing keeps popping up because of the Hurricane, I am going to whiplash myself, I am actually trying to get some housework done!
You have got to be kidding if you think LBJ or anyone like him would squash John McCain -- never would happen. That man marches to his own beat and no others. He is too arrogant for the likes of LBJ because there is one difference today -- facetime on TV and McCain gets plenty.
I would agree with your comments about LBJ and McCain if it was back in the 60's but not today.
Stevens is staying.
This rumor is stupid.
I think the brain of the Bridget just broke on Fox News...
she just asked Leon Panetta if the justices "ever look at what is going on in the world, before they decide when to announce their retirements, I mean, would Rehnquist look at what happened in London yesterday, and think that announcing his retirement today, might not be a good idea?"
I kid you not, that is what she asked Panetta!
First of all, I think that the Supreme Court Justices probably have such a "high opinion" of themselves, that they would figure that their retirement announcement WOULD knock the terrorist attack in London, off the headlines!!!
Second, of all, Rehnquist looked so feeble this mornining on TV....he needs to give it a rest...retire and enjoy what may be very little time left.
I agree, I think her sisterhood will demand that she stay on the court, hoping that a Dem ( guess which) will win in 08 and can appoint her successor..
They only have to FB until the 2006 senate elections. If the Pubs don't act with any spinal fortitude, they will likely lose in 2006 and the balance of power will shift in the senate. If that's the case, we're in trouble.
I was in the doctor's office waiting for my daughter to come out when the tsunami hit -- another lady and I counted 13 news alerts in a 15 minute time span. We were sitting there laughing like crazy. The person would be talking about the event and a News Alert would interrupt.
LOL!!! I am so glad I didn't turn on my TV but I would have loved to see that. I didn't think she was the brightest bulb on the black and she just confirmed it -- am sitting here laughing.
