No, the M249 is the SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon). The 240 Bravo is a different animal.

No it doesn't - standard 12.8mm russian fifty cal.

Very much like the M-2. Only with a bad attitude.

The M249 fires 5.56mm rounds, the 240 is 7.62mm.

You might have been using it to dry the Irish Setter

Irish Setter? One of those high maintenance sissy dogs? I'll have you know that Tango is a very fierce and dangerous animal - she just happens to look like a Chihuahua/Sheltie.

You better believe she's fierce - fourteen pounds of animal, one hundred fifty pounds of attitude

The M60 was formerly used in the SAW role, supplanting the BAR in that role. It has also been used on helicopters and ground vehicles as a mounted weapon.

When the M249 was introduced, it was mandated that all M60s in SAW roles be replaced with M249s. The Army went with the M249 originally, and the Marines were also issued them in due course. The Marines quickly figured out that the M249 was a low-power jam-o-matic, and moved on to the M240G.

The M240 was originally intended for vehicular use only. There was an optional kit shipped with each weapon that would allow the vehicle crew to dismount the weapon and use it in a SAW or infantry weapon role. The Marines mounted the kits to M240s and "created" the M240G (for Ground).

FN and the Army eventually figured out that there was a need for an infantry medium machine gun, and developed the M240B, which was purpose designed for infantry use and not a kit slapped on a vehicle gun.

We are still using old-style M-60s on Chinooks.

Nice clean muzzle!

I'm trying to machine a brake for it - sometimes, it goes off, and just won't stop...

I'll bet granny's rum bearing cow -- that a whole lot more blood was spilled in front of your "death dealing bitch".
Loved her, loved her..... Glad I did't have to carry or care for her...

The only weight no one ever complained about when crossing the wire --- was their backup belt for the 60..

Didn't have any problem with the M-60 as a grunt or as a door gunner. Got in a real heavy fire fight once and the gun was so hot the rounds started cooking off without putting the finger on the trigger, could have taken a smoke break and the gun would have done all the work.

If you can't light a smoke on the barrel, you aint putting down enough fire.

Best of times, worst of times.

I still cry or laugh, sometimes about the same things.

Wooten said the M-60 assault rifle would be very dangerous if it gets into the wrong hands.

Whoever wrote that piece is an idiot. It is a MACHINEGUN!

"It's a weapon which is specifically designed for combat,"

ahem, what gun is NOT meant for combat?

"You don't even need to point; just hold it in their general direction and pull the trigger," Wooten said.

Because the enemy always conveniently attacks en-masse in platoon-sized formations.
