Former FBI agent Coleen Rowley, who landed on the cover of Time magazine after her critique of the nation's pre 9/11 security lapses, announced Wednesday that she will seek the DFL nomination to run against two-term incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. John Kline in Minnesota's 2nd District.
Rowley, who was a strong opponent of going to war in Iraq, said she would run on the themes of "ethical decision-making," independence from partisan dogma, and balancing security needs with civil liberties, which she believes the Bush administration has damaged.
Acknowledging that she voted mostly Republican until 2000, Rowley faulted Kline for voting "in almost total lockstep" with President Bush and for supporting foreign and domestic policies that she said have become increasingly radical and dangerous rather than conservative.
"We must reclaim a foreign policy ethic that restores America as first among equals and shakes off this terribly distorted image of America as the Lone Ranger, shooting from the hip," Rowley said from the driveway of her tree-shrouded home in a hilly Apple Valley neighborhood.
State Republican Party officials said Rowley, who was a top legal adviser for the FBI's Minneapolis office, was out of touch with voters in the south suburban and partly rural district on how hard to fight terrorism.
"It's incredible that Coleen Rowley criticized the Bush administration for taking a "no-holds barred" approach to fighting terrorism," said Republican Party of Minnesota State Chair Ron Carey. "She will soon learn the voters in the Second District expect nothing less than a no-holds barred approach to fighting terrorism."

Coleen Rowley
Kline will need lots of help from around the country.
Crowley is exactly the kind of person Minnesotans would vote for, and she'll gets tons and tons of free, 100 percent favorable media -- some of it national.
Whose nomination?
democrat-farm-labor
Thats Minnesotan for a democrat.
The Rat party in Minnesota: "Democrat-Farm-Labor"
Maybe it should stand for: "Democrat Flaming Liberal"
The DFL is the name of the Minnesota state Democratic party. I believe the letters stand for "Dykes, Fags, and Leftists."
Thank you all!
You really should give some sort of 'Helen' warning b-4 posting a photo like that.
She be an officer: Major Eyehurt.
Looking at her platform, she must be on that liberal board that said "be kind" to terrorists. Friend of Hillary??
Uh, honey? They're not our equals.
Dumb, F***ing Liberal
Just another Leftist opportunist...
In her position at the FBI - she NEVER said a harsh word against the corruption, criminality or incompetence of the Clinton administration or the clowns of the era that made it that way...
As soon as the SHTF -- it's Bush's fault.
Semper Fi
DFL=NSDAP
Are you sure about that, this district in mostly conservative, and Rep. John Kline has a war hero type background as a former military veteran, who has fought terrorists on the front line.
In a way its funny, any other district, against any other candidate, her background would give her an edge, she picks the one place it can't and the one guy who can still top her.
If you get the chance, look up Rep. John Klines bio, its pretty amazing.
LOL!
I do have a general idea of Kline's background, and I know the district leans red -- that he was not elected by a fluke. I wouldn't bet against him at all. Just saying he'll need our support. In addition, Minnesota, like Iowa, has a fairly strong isolationist/pacifist tradition, to which not all conservatives there are immune -- especially with the MSM propagandizing daily about how "badly" the war is going. Minnesotans also pride themselves on their "open-mindedness," which can easily take the form of following MSM instructions, however unwittingly.
