FReepers vs. Code Pink at Walter Reed July 1 - Join us July 8!
DC Chapter ^ | July 6, 2005 | BillF

Posted on 07/05/2005 10:59:50 PM PDT by BillF

On Friday night, June 24, DC Chapter FReepers and friends had a fabulous fun FReep of Code Pinkos in complete disarray outside a gate of Walter Reed Army Medical Center. It was great to have several additional local FReepers join us for the first time in this 12th FReep in the Walter Reed series in just over thirteen weeks. With at least one out-of-town FReeper braving heavy holiday traffic, we had an awesome turnout for a holiday weekend.

As we have done on a number of these FReeps, we ate pizza on site before the FReep was under way.

The honor roll of those in attendance: tgslTakoma, Albion Wilde, Jack Deth, Justanobody, daughter of tgsl, Coop, his lurker friend Ken, Jimmy Valentine's brother, trueblackman, kristinn, lurker Joan, and BillF.

Opposed to our twelve patriots, the leftists peaked at eight America-hating traitors for a short period, but most of the time they had four or less.  In fact this was their most pathetically disorganized attempt yet. Perhaps their pathetic showing was because they were flummoxed from trying to counter our FReeps. Whether we caused their disorganization by dispiriting them, your attendance this coming Friday can help us. Let's demoralize the leftists and prevent them from demoralizing our brave, war-wounded troops in Walter Reed.

Before our signs were taken out, with just 3 or 4 FReepers standing on the corner with flags, cars pulling out of Walter Reed were honking support for us. Obviously, they're coming to expect us and understand why we are there.

Photos will be interspersed in the report. As it got progressively darker, the telephoto lens shots became less clear requiring software enhancement. You will notice that the leftists look more like cartoon characters in the later telephoto lens photos.

CLICK ON ANY PHOTO TO OPEN A LARGER VERSION IN A NEW WINDOW. Click on another photo and its larger version should open in the same window that the first enlarged photo did. Note that the few wide photos may open in a window wider than your screen and you can use a horizontal scroll bar to see parts.

Jimmy Valentine's brother, Jack Deth
, and young soldier who stopped to thank us for being there

The above photo was taken about 20 minutes past the leftists' designated 8 pm starting time. We had been fully deployed for about 30 minutes. In stark contrast, a photo of the leftists' position (at right) shows a single Pinko on site and without any signs.

First to arrive Pinko clad-in-blue arrives at least 15 minutes
late, without any signs

Contrast the below photos taken about the same time at least 30 minutes after the designated leftist start time. At left photo, are three of the eleven FReepers, then on site, as per top photo above. At right, the leftists have one sign and only three people total (the woman on the right is not a Pinko, but is an independent photographer). The guy with the sign was some local hot head who had yelled at us a few times before when he happened by. Joining the Pinkos this time, his sign was the only leftists' sign until the Pinkos sign-filled truck arrived one hour and thirty-five minutes after the designated start time for their two hour event.

lurker Joan, Justanobody, and Jack Deth

Three leftists and one independent photographer. Rumor has it
that the sign-holding leftist used to write product labels, but
was fired from his job for writing too small.

Code Pink co-founder Gael Murphy (pink top, green shorts)
join the other three leftists as independent photographer
(wearing backpack) discusses events with her.

Unclear if the blue Pinko is wiping away tears after Murphy
chastised him or if he just got a bug in his eye. Imagined
dialogue, "I thought you were supposed to bring the signs!"

A soldier wearing a wild shirt left Walter Reed, apparently with his wife or girlfriend. Walking away from the Pinkos, he shouted something like, "If you put that video camera in my face again, I'll take it away!" A short time later the soldier and friend came back with a twelve pack of beer. Possibly, the blue Pinko videotaped him again. At any rate, the soldier and friend walked up to the Pinkos and the below photos were taken. We could not hear what is being said, but it looked like the blue-clad Pinko was keeping his distance and the other Pinkos were blocking the soldier. No violence was seen and the soldier soon left.

Soldier, partially behind street post, has a run-in with the
Pinkos as his wife/friend holding beer case watches at right.

It looks like the two Pinkos are blocking the soldier from the
blue Pinko.

kristinn, lurker Ken, Coop, and Albion Wilde

trueblackman and kristinn

During most of the two hours scheduled for the Pinkos' protest
it looked like the above. Several people in a circle and one guy
with a sign. Here he is talking with the Pinko wearing pink.

The guy with the sign moved over to another corner leaving
the main Pinko "force" completely signless as Code Pinko
co-founder and DC leader Gael Murphy sits at right and
calls on her cellphone. One can imagine Gael saying,
"I don't care if they are replaying Fahrenheit 911 on cable,
get your worthless a** over here with the signs! Now, or else
you'll be going to Iraq with our next batch of supplies to the
terrorists, er, I mean families of the other side!"

As has been happened consistently for weeks now, we were getting many times the number of honks from supportive motorists as the Pinkos get. We've had numerous signs of support from various police vehicles and ambulances. This night we had a passing fire engine with sirens blaring also honk in support as a fireman waved in support out the window.

A young soldier in medic training stopped by to thank us for being there. Later, two soldiers stopped their car to also thank us and disparage the Pinkos as they had been to the Code Pink website. (Fortunately, and at least partly through our efforts, the troops are realizing that Code Pinkos, who call our military "killers," do NOT really support them.)  One of the soldiers in the car had lost a leg in combat in Iraq. We made the effort to use words to repay a debt that we owe him, a debt that can never be fully repaid.

If he or another military member who gave so much for our freedom comes to our FReep next Friday, do you think that you could be there to personally thank him or her?

We also had the pleasure of meeting Andi of http://andisworld.typepad.com/ . Andi is a young military wife who runs an outstanding blog with her great commentary and numerous resources for relatives and supporters of our military. We told her to express our thanks to her husband. We also thanked her because we know that wives and other relatives of military members make great sacrifices for the country. Check out her great site.

The main force of FReepers were diagonal to the Pinkos at
the intersection, but tgslTakoma moved to a corner directly
across from the Pinkos for a time

When tgslTakoma and I were directly across the street from
the Pinkos, this Pinko literally skipped across the street to us.
Not until the Pinko got within ten feet, did I realize that the
purse-carrying leftist was a male.

The Pinko in above right photo (rumored to be in line to lead Howard Dean's outreach program to the Confederate-flag-on-their-pickup-truck crowd) told us that there was "no freedom of speech in this country," justifying that absurd statement by referring to some restrictions on protest sites for those protesting on behalf of Terri Schiavo. He then told us that we didn't really care about the troops or we would protest alleged VA cuts. I told him that Code Pink should have donated their $600 K plus to the VA, instead of giving the supplies to the terrorists. At that stage, he said "Halliburton, Halliburton gives money to the terrorists. " tgslTakoma and I laughed as he walked back across the street.

At about 9:35 PM, 1 hour and 35 minutes after the start of the leftists' event, the truck with the Pinkos' signs arrived as did some more
Pinkos. They did stay for about an extra 20 minutes or so after their designated stop time, but it was still a pathetic effort that lasted
less than half of the planned two hour Pinko blood dance.

This was the fifth week in a row that we outnumbered the Pinkos for most of the two hour window that their protest is scheduled for, but we need to do more.

The same FReepers are doing almost all of the these FReeps. We do so gladly as a labor of love for our brave troops fighting terrorists over there, instead of waiting for the terrorists to come here. We FReep especially for those wounded in combat.  However, some FReepers' family vacations or other obligations may prevent some of them from coming this next Friday. Will this be the time that you get out from behind the keyboard and FReep in person?

FReepers are winning the public relations battle with Code Pink at Walter Reed, a location that should not be used for war protests.

We absolutely must keep the pressure on Code Pink and keep showing the wounded soldiers at Walter Reed that Code Pink doesn't speak for the nation. If you live in the DC area and haven't yet come out for one of these FReeps, please do so this next Friday. Injured Walter Reed patients, including amputees, have repeatedly told us how important it is for us to be there to counter Code Pink.

If we can sufficiently outnumber the leftists often enough, embarrassment may cause the leftists to stop these outrageous morale-damaging ("Maimed for a lie" is one of their signs) demonstrations at the hospital. What about you? Can you spare a few hours on a Friday night?

Can you give up next Friday night at the movies to support troops who've given up limbs for your freedoms? Will you?

This FReep is rewarding, fun and important for our troops and our nation.

Jimmy Valentine's brother used his cigar to light a few sparklers
in early celebration of our nation's independence. I had thought
about asking him to use the cigar to light dynamite sticks like
Clint Eastwood did in Two Mules for Sister Sara, but the
Code Pinkos weren't formidable enough to justify dynamite. :)
Especially when laughter is a better weapon against them.

George, it was a pleasure meeting you and shaking your hand last summer in Fairfax right after you shook President Bush's hand.

I'll have to respectively disagree with your #56. I'll intersperse quotes from your post in italics and my comments.

Quite honestly, the misguided, poorly educated example of our public school system, who appears in the photo, doesn't deserve our time and energy. We're not going to "convert" him

You hit the mark with your characterization of the leftist in that photo. You are absolutely right that we are not going to convert him, but your premise about our intent is wrong.

We aren't trying to convert him. Instead, and as discussed in the 4th paragraph of my original post, we want to undermine his ability to demoralize our war-wounded troops. Comments from troops and their relatives indicate that we are succeeding.

and all we do is swell their numbers by confronting them, and giving them much needed publicity.

We haven't swelled their numbers, which are declining. Other than posting on FR, we haven't given them any publicity and I don't think publicity on FR helps them.

All they want to do is upset people and annoy us. [emphasis added by me]

It is true that many of them do want to upset and annoy, but they want much more than that.

The Pinkos' evil scheme is to fake friendship with soldiers in hopes of finding one or more who, vulnerable in their wounded state, can be manipulated into joining the anti-war movement, breaking faith with their fellow troops, and serving the twisted hate-America propaganda purposes of Code Pink. More generally, the Pinkos seek to demoralize the troops.

Our FReeps have been instrumental in frustrating the Pinkos'goals.

When we show up, they have succeeded in their mission and goal.

No. We have we been able to hinder their morale-sapping efforts, as numerous troops and relatives have told us.

I say ignore them, and do nothing more than to send the photo to everyone on our mailing lists.

One minor point here. How do we get the truthful, unflattering photos of the leftists if we don't show up? Leftists are less likely to give us the photos that we need.

More important point, the troops and relatives have thanked us profusely.

Indeed, a couple months back FReepers did NOT show up one Friday because we were busy helping a FReeper with an urgent situation. An Iraq War amputee at Walter Reed FReepmailed me that he was disappointed because Code Pink was there, but the FReepers were not. He subsequently told me in person that he did not want wounded troops going into Walter Reed to see only Code Pinkos, without FReepers there to express appreciation for the troops.

George, I enjoyed meeting you. I know that you're a good guy, but I'm sure that you will understand why I value that young Marine's opinion more than yours on the question of whether FReeping Code Pink at Walter Reed is worthwhile. Maybe, that Marine's opinion, combined with dozens of similar expressions from wounded soldiers and Marines and relatives, would even cause you to reconsider your opinion?

For the above reasons, I'll have to strongly agree with BMW's #57 and Coop's #58.

Even before your later posts about your activities supporting the troops, I knew that you are quite active politically and do indeed get out from behind the keyboard in order to make a difference. I applaud all your efforts. However, your post to BMW could easily lead others to assume that you simply sit behind the keyboard. BMW did not say that you fell into that category and you certainly have explained how you aren't stuck behind the keyboard.

It's disappointing that, at post #62 and beyond, you talk about annoying personal attacks from BMW and Coop. They simply disagreed with you, without any personal attacks. None of this should get personal.

At any rate, I respect and appreciate your efforts to support the troops (as well as your considerable other political efforts) and hope that you will at least give the rest of us the benefit of the doubt for trying to do what troops and relatives have been encouraging us to do.

Below is "Mitchell". He kindly wrote an article on DC Indy Media about how he met some soldiers who told him that our troops routinely use Iraqi children as human shields because "they won't shoot their own children". Thanks Mitchell for portraying our soldiers as "baby killers".

In the "street theater" Code Pink used at a recent protest in Lafayette Park, "Mitchell" played an "evil American Officer". He had something that looked like a flight attendant's uniform (jacket and pants). He was wearing nail polish that day, sort of lace up jeans and pink sneakers. It wasn't quite women's clothes, more of a Dana Milbank on "Dress Down Metrosexual Day".

I'm sure you orTakoma can find the dialogue and quote his "character". BTW, the Iraqi gentleman with us was very offended nit only by Medea Benjamin's lies, but that she'd play an Iraqi woman wearing an Afghan woman's clothes. Guess Medea's a racist because "they all look alike" to her.

The guy below in the blue shirt was at the protest of the recruiter's office in Silver Spring carrying a flag drapped coffin. He was also wearing a blue jeans jacket and a paisley headband.

Two things I pointed out to the passing public.

1. Code Pink helped fill those coffins coming home.

2. If you're over 50 and wearing a paisley headband, it's not a fashion statement, it's a flashback. (Don't take the brown acid...)

PS: Who knew "The Unibomber" was out on parole AND a liberal?

Bring raingear, just in case.

The last full forecast that I heard a few hours back predicted that the deluge of rain from former tropical depression Cindy would get out of here Friday afternoon. Let's hope that the rain is completely gone in time for the FReep.

While I hate to see you miss the Hannity event, it's always an honor to stand with the Doctor of FReep.

You may want to avoid Freedom Fest if it's raining all day there. The rain (2 to 5 inches around here) should be gone from DC by FReep time.

I still think that Howard Dean should hire him to be in charge of Democrat outreach for the Confederate-flag-on-their-trucks voters.

Actually, they won't self-destruct and we DO need to be at Reed to see that they don't succeed.

They HAD been able to milk their :vigil" for some publicity prior to our efforts. So they made an impact with an uniformed public and some military folks. In addition, their leaders found it easy to recruit followers because it was pretty much "Mardi Gras" out there for them. Lot's of positive feedback from their fellow Commies.

Now they have to witness the love and support the passing public expresses towards our soldiers. And knowing that the left has a long history of hating our troops, that's got to be demoralizing for them. They only pretend to offer support only so they aren't shut out of the debate. Notice how often we see them revert to their "baby killer" rhetoric amongst themselves when they think no one is watching. For example, Code Pink's Jodie Evans, a founder, lied that she saw an American soldier executing Iraqi women (Michael Medved Show March 18, 2005).

They also have some people at their protests who do have a conscience and when they do learn what Code Pink does versus what Code Pink says do not come back. We were successful in dropping ANSWER's turnout by 99%, and preventing them from being able to get enough people to hold a protest in DC on the first and second anniversaries of the Iraq war. ANSWER all of a sudden stopped advertising their planned DC rally and started advertising a bus trip to the Fayetteville rally. And we pursued them to Fayetteville, working their followers with the truth about their leaders.

Getting down to bras tacks, we're it. The GOP, the think tanks, the big shots, the talking heads aren't out there, we are. And we make a difference. If only we had more support form the people just mentioned. If we did, we'd put to bed forever the notion that the protests arranged by the radical left speak for more than a tiny percentage of America.

Now you're tempting me :)

Unfortunately I won't be able to stay. After the FReep Fri night I head to NJ to camp the night in Marlton. Sat at non I'm FReeping with some Protest Warrior folks at Ft. Monmouth. Gonna be a busy couple of days :)

In Sept I will be able to stay. Fri-Sun for sure, more if warranted.

Looking forward to seeing all of you Patriots Friday night!

Actually, Code Pinko's goal is related to the Dover AFB photos. Their claim is that we sneak the wounded into Reed at night because the military doesn't want the public to see the "cost of war".

Code Pinko has finally realized that the vast majority of American's dispise them and feel a deep gratitude towrds our military and tremendous sympathy for those who pay the ultimate price for our freedom.

By amplifying the "cost of war" at every opportunity, Code Pink hopes to increase the pain felt by normal American, those who love this country and the troops who defend it. Code Pink hopes that pain will morph into a call to end the war.

That is their primary objective in the Dover AFB and Walter Reed protests.

Also, another goal of the left wing front groups like Code Pink, Military Families Speakout and Iraq Veterans Against The War that was clearly stated by those groups prior and just after their Fayetteville rally was that they needed to recruit MILITARY members and their families so that they could front for their groups. Charlie Richardson of MFSO clearly stated that at a meeting of "peace groups" and Hoffman of IVAW offered himself as a front if they just provided "logistics support".

Michael Moore had to use funeral footage sneaked out Arlington and used without the family's permission, along with a unethical edit of an NBC interview with an double amputee at Walter Reed. Both of those dispicable acts helped the left lose the 2004 election.

But what if Code Pink tricked an actual soldier or Marine? Our natural tendency would be to confuse sympathy with understanding. Code Pink could use them as human sheilds against scrutiny of their aims. Code Pink and MFSO have no problem using a blast fax to every newsroom by the Institute For Public Accuracy offering up about 10 military families who lost loved ones for interviews. MFSO set up Gold Star Mother For Peace, again co-opting the good name and good well felt towards another respected organization the Gold Star Mothers. Likewise, they use the public's sympathy towards those lost on September 11th but forming a front group, September 1th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows.

We put a BIG wrench into Code Pink's recruiting at Walter Reed. Funny how the more effective "counter recruiting protest" has been us against Code Pink, not Code Pink against the US Military.

Whenever Code Pink and the rest of the left takes to the streets, it is not to solely influence the American public. It is done for foreign consumption via playback on CNN and other foreign media.

kristinn is correct about Vietnam. The left had sole possession of the streets while the "silent majority" stayed at home. In the end, while the United States never lost on the field of battle, the left won the in the streets, on TV and at the conference table. I don't believe that we can afford to let that happen again.

When Code Pink took their war to our wounded soldiers, the doctors and nurses who care for them and their families they crossed a very important line, IMO.

Sums it up nicely. Both of your replies were excellent. Thank you.

Their goal is to recruit a "Born on the 4th of July" soldier who is angry at their country. If our people see no one in support, it makes it easier to recruit the weak young mind. Their leader on the phone shows me their people are loosing interest when they have pleaded with to show. We have out numbered them and pulled more local support from the people passing along the street. They can be beat and demoralized but it will take a consistent effort. They are showing weakness. All the soldiers from the hospital always come to our side. It is not what we did yesterday. It is what we do tomorrow until we can't show up or we stand before Jesus.

Hi, tgslTakoma:

I don't have a canoe. Rain doesn't bother me too much, since I work outdoors.

If I can make it, I'll have an excellent opportunity to break in my new Boonie Hat.
