Democrats are prepared to filibuster to block any anti-abortion nominee proposed to replace Sandra Day O'Connor on the Supreme Court, Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., said Tuesday.
"The filibuster is on the table. It's been on the table for 200 years," Boxer said when asked what methods could be used to block a Supreme Court candidate who would seek to overturn Roe v. Wade, the three-decade old decision legalizing abortion.

Boxer called a threat to legalized abortion an "extraordinary circumstance."
"It means a minimum of 5,000 women a year will die. So all options are on the table," she said.
Boxer called O'Connor a crucial moderate voice, saying the first female appointed to the high court was a strong backer of environmentalism and reproductive rights.
"She has been a powerful voice for moderation," Boxer said. "This is a philosophy her successor should embrace ... We cannot go back to the dark days. Roe must remain the law of the land."

Down right arid I'd say.
If he nominates Gonzales, I will gladly agree with you and join a third party - Constitution Party, anyone?
Who are they, Babs?
We've got to make it crystal clear to the moderate Americans, that if the woman's life is in danger because of the pregnancy, that abortion is then acceptable.
Are we able to make abortion retroactive??
Women don't have to die, or have abortions BABS! There is birth control everywhere. This woman is one that I can't stomach! This makes me want to BARF!!!!
we have alot more problems with our own republican senators then we do with Bush himself. if we don't see a conservative appointment, I believe it will be because the backchannel word from our own senators is that the votes are not there to confirm someone like Luttig for example.
The demonRATs don't even realize that abortions are decreasing the sheer number of their base voters. Nyah-ha-ha!
bttt
How about we make it crystal clear that if the mother's life is in said danger, we will gladly do everything medically possible to protect BOTH lives, up to and including removing the child, viable or not.
"...As opposed to their preferred outcome - hundreds of thousands of dead babies."
That's the truth of it. How sad is that. At a 4th of July bbq yesterday this subject came up. I heard a lib say: "When I worked in a hospital in the ghettos, hundreds of babies were born and no one wanted them." I said... "so, rather than put our love, energy and money into finding good homes, lets just kill them."
Well, boys, I reckon this is it. Nookular combat, toe-to-toe with the Demmies.
Sadly, that may indeed be true - I will change party registration nonetheless.
That would be an "extraordinarily unfortunate" circumstance.
Demo Rats oppose the death penalty, but favor abortion on demand. Their brains are fried. President Reagan had a good line, to paraphrase, funny how all those who favor abortion have already been born.
Even so, I want to save unborn babies even if they would grow up to vote Democratic every 4 years for their entire God-given lives.
"Luckily, we still have recourse left to us in the political arena. If we get another Souter appointed to the SCOTUS, I will never vote GOP again."
I disagree with this stratgy, though of course it is your right. (I am also a former liberal.)
Instead, I would suggest joining a campaign to oust a sitting Republican Traitor Senator (one of the 7 Dwarves or Gang of 14) in a 2006 primary---to send a message. I am hoping Congressman Kassich runs against
dwarf Senator DeWine (Ohio), affording us all, nationwide, the chance to join the battle with phone calls, money and even a 72-Hour reinforcement campaign like the 72-Hour Texans in the 2004 Bush campaign.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Constitution Party pro choice?
"If he nominates Gonzales, I will gladly agree with you and join a third party - Constitution Party, anyone?"
I honestly do not believe he will.
I live in California - tell me what my chances are of ousting a Republican Senator anytime soon?
