I live in Northeast Ct. I wrote a letter to the editor that was published and lo and behold the same day I get a call from the Libertarian Party inviting me to join with fellow travelers. I told the fellow he better check with you first. :-}
Rally at New London City Hall tonight at 6PM. Be there if you can.

Who paid the yearly taxes. Indeed.

"I would be willing to bet that no property taxes have been paid on the land since 2000."
The residents continued to occupy the property. The use of eminent domain was contested, ergo no deed transfer. This would be a concept that can only be described as retroactive seizure, in order to avoid compensation of appreciated value. There is more at stake than "just" private property, if this is the case, and it is allowed to stand.

i'm sure the city will gladly give back all property taxes they collected since then... Sure they will. They'll just deduct them from the rental balance, and the former owners will just have to pay the difference.
This is amazing.

Does anyone know if property taxes were collected during the last 5 years and if they reflect any increased appraisals?

Not retroactively, five years back.

Something like this happened in Texas a while back.
Maybe the New London people ought to organize a bit, establish a perimeter, bring in some cannon. Would make for great visuals. The MSM can't resist visuals.

Get it back into court. The case won't back to SCOTUS until after W get his picks on board.

If only the court would be smart enough to take this opportunity.

I agree that it is retroactive and they should not get away with this nonsense.

I bet that some of the people have owned their houses outright at the time of the taking. Now these martinets are going to demand they pay rent? Who's in line to run for New London City Council?
And I read somewhere that this whole scheme was cooked up by some senior city official and that it's not taking off like he thought. He's now in the position to screw his constituents over a bum deal. Whadda guy.

Discussion is not good enough. It is time for deeds. There is a rally tonight at 6PM on the steps of New London City HAll. There are elections every two years. The democrats in CT turned back a bill submitted by the CT rino's that would exert limits on ED in Ct. As for me, I'll be at City Hall tonight.

That would be the downside to losing the suit.

I hold the government responsible for any deaths. The beauty of being in government is that nobody's responsible for anything.
