Hillary Clinton Blasts President Bush on Border Security

2008 presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton is blasting President Bush for lax enforcement of the nation's immigration laws, saying the White House has dropped the ball on border security and put the country at risk for another major terrorist attack.

In a statement posted to her newly revamped official Senate web site, Clinton charges: "The Bush administration is failing to meet what should be the basic requirements of immigration policy: continuing our American tradition of welcoming immigrants who follow the rules and are trying to build a better life for their families, while strengthening national security in a post 9-11 world."

In a potentially potent bid to win Red State support in 2008, the former first lady is playing the role of tough cop:

"Our current immigration laws need to be reformed," she urges. "We need a better solution to the question of illegal immigration which recognizes the conflict between the need to enforce the law, and the reality that too many employers are using undocumented workers today."

Clinton says that while "this administration has failed to provide the resources to protect our borders, or a better system to keep track of entrants to this country . . . I welcome the addition of more border security."

She pins blame for the failure directly on the Oval Office, saying, "President Bush refused to provide the necessary funding in his Fiscal Year 2006 proposed budget sufficient to hire all of the border patrol agents that had been authorized."

"Fortunately," Clinton adds, "during the Senate’s debate on the budget in March of 2005, we passed an amendment to provide increased funding for border patrol agents."

Then, in a none-too-subtle dig at GOP foot-dragging on the immigration issue, Clinton says: "I hope the Republican leadership will support the maintenance of this funding, to provide the resources necessary to properly protect our borders."

If the POTUS would call a presser and announce that "All illegals are to leave this country in ??? hours and any company that hires one will be fined 1$$$,$$$ dollars and if your Visa has expired you must also leave".

The present POTUS would never do that - it would mean that he would actually have to order immigration laws enforced and the borders protected... a new concept for him.

Hillary's plan:
Wave "ole crusty" at the border.
The stench alone would close the border for at least a decade.

:o)

Please.

You know, you can find racists of every race on every street corner of every country.

However, there are millions more who are good people who care about the future of their country.

I agree. Enforcement is hard and the politicos can't handle it. I was down in Yuma and Mx. I was never checked coming back to the US. BP stations were all shut down.

Exactly! And also, legal Mexicans themselves frown on illegal immigration. The Republican Party needs to wake up. Those who support open borders call those against open borders "bigots". I have many friends in Mexico who do not want to leave their home. They suffer under President Fox's "Go North To The United States Economic Policy". How long would Bush last if his only economic policy was for Americans to go to Canada? Anybody who supports President Fox is NOT on the side of the Mexican people.

Funny pic! Keep em coming! However, let's not run against Hillary using Clinton's sex problems. Remember, the American people voted for Clinton even after knowing his reputation. We have them beat on the ideas and issues (except illegal immigration.

"Dead, soulless, evil eyes."

A perfect description of the creeping thing that lurks among us waiting to devour an entire nation and then the world.

I don't think much of Bush's border policy, but Hillary is being fantastically hypocritical here.

On the subj. of our southern border, the July/Aug issue of The American Spectator features an informative, and somewhat alarming, article on the current state of indifference, by both Reps and Dems, to the problem.
And I'll assume you've guessed that TAS doesn't deem Hillary's political elevation to the Oval Office as the needed tonic for this disorder.

Okay, the weekend's over and it's time to ping what I've missed while enjoying a wonderful Independence Day.

We've been predicting this for months...anyone surprised? Does anyone believe Ms. Clinton gives a hoot about stopping illegal immigration?

Okay then, business as usual. Roast Hillary!!

She looks more conservative on border security to me than does Bush. Bush had better get his act together.

She can actually run on Bill's interior enforcement record. Enforcement under Bill was weak but under Bush it has become nonexistent.

the real issue here is that Hillary can attack Bush all she wants, but Bush isn't up for re-election. We need to make sure that whoever the GOP nominee is, that illigal immigration and the illegal employment of illegal aliens is high on the platform. Hopefully not in the guise of an amnesty program which seems to be the GOP's current position.
