Attention all Freepers. My son-in-Law's unit in Iraq, the 141 Washington Artilary, has been alerted and will be monitoring this thread. We need to let them know how much true Americans (Freepers) appreciate what they are doing. Our goal is 1,000 messages posted here. Please help us make it happen.

I accept om behalf of all my relatives that have served past and present.
Checking my family history,I had many in WWII, but they never talked about. One Uncle on the beaches in Normandy, got a Silver Star and other medals. Another Uncle shot down over China, had to jump and was hid by the Chinese. My dad drank bad water in Greenland and had very bad intestinal trouble, which I believe, lead to his death at 64. He served in The D.A.V. and many other Service organization, helping sick vets. My nephew Heath just back from Iraq, done with his service but joined The National Guard in Florida.
This is my side my wife's side had 4 brother, including her father in WWII,he was a cook in the Army serving at Th Battle Of The Bulge. It's on their behalf I accept your thanks, mine was a small part.

On July 3rd, we got up and I put on a pair of trousers and a tank top. It's very hot here so I tried to dress coolly. After attending Mass we put together a picnic to share with another couple. We got into my car and I drove across town to meet the other couple. The wife had on a white skirt and a blue and red striped tank top (and a crazy red hat with a HUGE feather sticking out of it), and both husbands had changed into shorts.

We loaded out picnic fixings into their truck, along with some camping chairs and grill, and drove 30 miles to the state capital for a free concert. After parking, we walked through the downtown area packed with vendors setting up tents and tables on the closed-off streets. We walked around the capital building and the governor's mansion built there on top of a bluff overlooking the river and marveled at the beauty of the structures, the display of the 10 Commandments, and felt the cool breeze blowing across the river.

The concerts apparently were slated for Monday so we went back to the vehicle and drove to a park and had our picnic. Before eating we thanked God for our bounty, and our troops for our freedom. Later, we pulled out a bottle of wine to go with our pork steaks and shared a toast to each other, our troops, and our happiness.

When the day was over we went home to the air conditioning, washed off the sweat and dirt, listened to the news and watched a movie.

None of this sounds like much, nothing big. But EVERYTHING we did we were able to do because of our freedom. Imagine any of the story above being the scenario for couples in Iraq, or even Saudia Arabia.

Troops, you are the ones who are guaranteeing that women can drive and wear shorts. We can picnic with each other, share a glass of wine, visit the ruler's palace, eat what we choose, go to a church service of our choice, and even just shop alone.

Our troops insure that our vendors can make a living and keep shop without fear of bombings or sniping. Our electricity runs 24/7, and turn the handle in the shower and we have running water. Even these small things are not possible in Iraq for the peole or for the troops.

How can we not do the little things we do each day and not be grateful to the young men and women who are keeping it so? And, at such a cost to themselves?

God bless our troops and watch over you. Thank you for your dedication to our freedom. May you complete your assignments and missions each day and find a comfortable bed each night. Know we are behind you and please come home safe.

:-) They deserve nothing less than our support and total commitment and to remember the fallen and those they left behind.

As I sit here watching President Bush give his Independence Day speech, I can't help but think of what you guys are doing for me and my family..

I so very much appreciate your bravery and sacrifice for this wonderful country. I haven't feared for the future of our country as long as the military is fighting the good fight.

Most of all, please know that we Americans, really do KNOW what a great job you are doing, and that the politicians and the media, DO NOT speak for us.

Thank you, and God Bless you all!
