Python beheaded

Python beheaded Sandnes woman Anne-Grethe Lagerren got the shock of her life when she found what was apparently a king python under her sofa. The woman was doing her Thursday evening vacuuming when she saw a snake's tail sticking out from under her living room sofa.

"I screamed and ran into the kitchen but my husband said I should calm down. Easier said than done, I am still shaken," Lagergren told newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad.

Her husband Leif tried to get the snake out with a broom but decided it was wiser to call police.

"I couldn't believe my eyes, it was as thick as a man's arm," Leif Lagergren said.

Police called a security firm but before they arrived the couple found out that the snake belonged to the son of a neighbor.

The snake, which entered the Lagergren home through a veranda door, had been missing for two weeks but none of the neighbors had been notified.

The snake owner's father arrived and decided not to wait, pulling the snake out from under the sofa and cutting its head off.

Leif Lagergren said that he wanted to file charges since the snake had been at large without any of the other neighborhood residents being informed.

Dagfinn Berg of Falken Security said he thought the animal was a king python.

"We've had a few of those before, but this is the biggest one I've seen," Berg said.

I wonder if you can do this if you have a snake relative that you can't get off your sofa?

I'm so disappointed. I thought James Carville had been guillotined.

I dont' think it was necessary to kill the snake. If the kid was tired of it and wouldn't take care of it, they should have contacted a local pet store and given it to them. Someone else would have bought the thing and taken care of it.

I got the impression that confusion, mayhem and pandemonium reigned supreme until the father shows up, cooly sized the sitation up, and promptly chopped the snakes head off. Somehow though, it strikes as just a little bit over the top. I wonder if he did that outside or on the couch? That'd probably leave a mark on their fancy 10,000 threadcount carpet too, you know what I mean?

I believe that stoning is the preferred punishment for that, usually by women wearing fake beards.

We love "king" pythons in our house (more commonly known in the USA as ball pythons.) Their initial response to any threat is to curl up into a very tight ball with their heads buried in their coils.

They can stay in that position for hours. It's really cute, and unfortunately they stop doing that as they become acclimated to regular handlers.

Ball pythons are small fat bodied snakes. Adult length is generally 3-5 feet. The record is 6 feet.

They are extremely docile, lethargic and slow moving. They make great pets. All they want in life is not to get eaten, not to be too hot or too cold, and to have a meal every other week or so.

But you do have to be careful not to let them escape, as they are very good at doing that.

Too bad about what happened to this snake. The neighbor was never in any danger at all.

There's two kinds of snakes I don't like: live ones and dead ones.
