This weekend's French Grand Prix at Magny-Cours is being targeted by a group of donkey-riding protestors, determined to drive Formula One out of the country. The protest sees an anti-consumerism group mount their fourth annual attempt at "the suppression of the French Grand Prix of Formula One" by riding a donkey convey from Lyon to Magny-Cours.
As practice got underway at the track on Friday, reports were already coming in of traffic congestion 12 kilometres from Magny-Cours as the donkey protest takes its toll. The group plan to march on the circuit on race day, raising fears of serious traffic chaos.
The socialist group condemn Formula One as an "anachronistic leisure reserved for a score of spoilt rich brats", complaining that the sport causes pollution and wastes the world's resources.
As well as their anger at the alleged environmental issue, the group are upset that local government subsidises the race out of taxpayers' money.
A statement complained that the race "drew 2million euros in public funds to finance the leisure of Michael Schumacher the billionaire".
Sunday's grand prix, which the protestors describe as an "irresponsible and puerile circus game", will attract around 80,000 fans, most of whom have to drive to the circuit due to the lack of accommodation nearby.
The group will slowly make their way to Magny-Cours over the next two days, culminating in a demonstration outside the town hall - after they have disrupted race-day traffic.
The group is being led by Francois Schneider and his donkey Jujube. He has already mounted several donkey-centred-protests to support socialist causes.

If that greenpisser together with his donkey were thrown to lions, then a good leisure moment could be provided to a lot of middle- class and less-moneyed spectators without much expenditures on subsidies. If anything, there would be a lot of money cleared from snacks, ice-cream and cold drinks concessions.
I hope the donkeys aren't riding on Michelins.
This is coming from people who are riding donkeys in the streets as their protest?
