The two surest ways to destroy the Republican majority:

(1) Bush nominates someone other than a known, solid conservative.

(2) Bush nominates a solid conservative and the Senate Republicans allow him to be obstructed.

I don't expect it to happen, but if it does, mark my words ... there will be a significant exodus of social conservatives from the Republican party.

Just received an MSNBC and CNN email saying the same with breaking news -- she is resigning. How about replacing her with Janice Brown that the Senate just approved?

I hope (probably in vain), that conservatives will support the President's pick, rather than one-issue bashing him to death, along with what he's going to get from the left. Now's the time for unity

Blind support? No thanks, RINOs need not apply.

If Bush really wants to make liberals squeal and nominate a woman at the same time, he'll nominate Fifth Circuit Judge Edith Jones, affectionately known to liberals as the "Horsewoman of the Right Wing Apocalypse."

She might have trouble getting confirmed because of the "sleeping lawyer" opinion she wrote- affirming a death penalty conviction even though the defendant's lawyer slept through trial.

Bork was "borked" was because there was no way in hell the Republicans in the U.S. Senate wanted him confirmed

Why not?

If Bush and the Repub Senate get a conservative through then I bet dollars to donuts Kennedy will think he is the most powerful Judge in the history of mankind.

Good riddance to one of President Ronald Reagan's biggest mistakes.

Good. McCain will do everything he can to see that Saad gets an up or down vote.

Please not that for Rove, 2369 is the phone number listed on the official govt. website results.gov, the appointee directory. I only listed the other number because some say that is his phone also, but I have not tried that one.

Now THAT would be a great idea. How could they possibly turn around and say she's not qualified?

Ted Olsen, first.

I like Ted Olsen too. But I have been reading quite a lot lately that his Solicitor General's office had prepared an Amicus (friend of the court) Brief in favor of the recent City of New London eminent domain takings case. It was never filed with the courts only because the Administration thought it would be unpopular politically.

Also, I believe that Judges are required to recuse themselves from any case where they have ever served as a legal adviser to the government. Having been Solicitor General for five years and through a contentious period, Olson has given a lot of advice on a lot of issues that are near and dear to us so he would be recusing himself from the very cases where we would need him the most. (The same might be true for Gonzalez but in my opinion we would be glad that he recessed himself because he leans liberal). With either Olsen or Gonzalez we would only get half a justice.

And Reagan had a 2-1 recod not in our favor.

You again leave that historical note off in your bash.

Will the seven Swarfs in the Senate screw this up? Possibly.

Does Bush have a record of relenting on judges? No.

Your critisism is without base, somewhat suspect as it seems directed ONLY at the Bush family absent the person that nominated O'Connor.

I have a strange proposal: Appoint Hillary. That would take her out of the Senate, and out of the running for President in 2008. Would she really turn down a life time appointment? And, since she has been trying to convince everyone she has moved more to the "center," maybe she can be held to that line??? Just get her out of the options for the Dems in the next election.
