The two surest ways to destroy the Republican majority:

(1) Bush nominates someone other than a known, solid conservative.

(2) Bush nominates a solid conservative and the Senate Republicans allow him to be obstructed.

I don't expect it to happen, but if it does, mark my words ... there will be a significant exodus of social conservatives from the Republican party.

And where are those social conservatives going to go?

Social conservatives always seem to have their bags packed at the ready, threatening to split if they don't get their way.

Far as I am concerned, walk now and avoid the prolonged goodbyes. If social conservatives want to destroy our best hope of turning this country around by demanding that all things go their way, it is lost anyway.

I am mad already and the nom hasn't been made.

Some of you folks are the most negative people I know -- the President could nominate the most strict Constitutionalist and some of you are going to be wringing your hands. Why let Pres Bush's record of judicial nominations get in the way of "what could happen?"

All this social conservatives will leave is crap -- always the threats around here when there are no facts to back up a supposition. Disgusting!
