Iran's new president declares worldwide 'Islamic revolution'

Iran's president-elect has proclaimed an Islamic revolution of global proportions.

Mahmood Ahmadinejad said his election coincided with what he termed a new Islamic revolution.

"The wave of the Islamic revolution will soon reach the entire world," Ahmadinejad said. "In one night, the martyrs strode down a path of 100 years." Ahmadinejad, who did not elaborate, was speaking to the families of those killed in a 1981 attack at the headquarters of the Islamic Republic Party, Middle East Newsline reported.

The Teheran mayor has served as a senior commander in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, responsible for the nation's missile and nuclear weapons programs, and has been identified as a suspect in the killing of Kurdish dissidents in Europe in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The 49-year-old Ahmadinejad, who participated in the takeover of the U.S. embassy in Teheran, in 1979, was regarded as the most anti-Western of the presidential candidates. On June 24, he defeated Hashemi Rafsanjani, a former president who headed the Expediency Council, the regime's watchdog over what had been a reformist-dominated parliament. "Thanks to the blood of the martyrs, a new Islamic revolution has arisen and the Islamic revolution of 1384 [the current Iranian year] will, if God wills, cut off the roots of injustice in the world," Ahmadinejad was quoted by the official Iranian news agency as saying. "The era of oppression, hegemonic regimes, tyranny and injustice has reached its end."

The speech marked the first time since the late 1980s that an Iranian president vowed to export Islamic insurgency throughout the world. Allies of Ahmadinejad said the president-elect, who takes office in August, would seek to revive the principles of the Islamic revolution in 1978. They said Ahmadinejad would also seek to impose Islamic behavior in public, including strict enforcement of a dress code.

"Islamic and revolutionary culture have been neglected in the past years," Iranian parliamentarian Mohammad Taqi Rahbar said.

Iran has been cited as the leading financier of groups that appear on the U.S. State Department list of terrorist organizations. Iran's leading clients have been the Hizbullah in Lebanon and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, both sponsored by Teheran, as well as Hamas and the Syrian-aligned Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command.

Why did we wait til this jerk was elected before anyone found out who he is?

I'm sure the President's folks, as well as all of our intelligence agencies knew all along, but what could they do about it?

What a coincidence, I was listening to SuziQ (CCR, that's Creedence Clearwater Revival...a band) before I tuned to Rush.

You know I had his personal website (Ahmadinejad), and I had my friend translate where he bragged about the hostage crisis. I have to find it. It starts with an M...it probably hasn't been sanitized.

It's him smooth, trust me. A few of us have been talking about this for three years (posturing for him to get in), because it was the worst nightmare ever. Thought it would never happen. My friend (Islamic Journalist) sent me video clips of when they went to a hotel here in the states for illegal voting and you see the strongarm techniques. Another few bloggers (who weren't shut down), sent me clips of the empty polling places and people being turned away by armed men. There has been a great cry for freedom in Iraq...a lot of them may have already paid with their lives. It's going to be hard to stay in contact now.

But yes, it is him.

What's it going to take to knock some common sense into the administration? Our enemies are legion and nothing we do or say will ever make them like us. We have allies not worthy of the name, and no country in its right mind adapts itself to the demands of other countries. That's crazy. Sovereign countries are sovereign with their own borders, laws, languages, etc., for a reason. Germany doesn't want to do France's bidding or vice versa. But the US is told to do this or that by the rest of the world on a daily basis. Worse, this admin. it seriously. Germany wouldn't fight a PC war in Iraq if they were in our shoes, nor would France. They'd kick some serious you know what, and so should we. Iran is coming to a full, rolling boil. We'll have to do something and soon.

"Though the eyebrows look a little closer together in the old picture."

I was thinking that his eyebrows look groomed in the newer picture. Plucked, and possibly trimmed with a pair of hair clipper set at 1/4 inch. Then the 1/4 inch template pulled off, and the clippers used to shave a seperation between the two brows. Sans the plucking part, the clipper technique is a well known way to get rid of that "unibrow" look. After all, the in the newer pic, he looks fresh from a full service barber shop.

"He was backed by Khomeini back then and is backed by this Khomeini now...he was part of that transition and strong-arming also. Indeed it is him."

I skipped nearly all the posts, having got online so late (hollared myself hoarse today and figure I can now type my fingers stiff and sore) but heard (and read- actually, read and then heard) that Ahmadinejad was a favorite of Khomeini's regime. He executed so many Iranian dissidents that he earned the nickname "Tir Khalas Zan"...literally, "the Terminator".

I've followed some of this because I'm on Dr.Zin's ping list.It looks to me like us going into Iraq is making more and more sense every day.

I mean that.
