Former Clinton National Security Advisor Sandy Berger pled guilty on April 1 to smuggling five classified documents, including a highly secret memorandum.
Two men walk into the National Archives [no this isn't a joke] one steals letters dating back to the civil war then sells them on EBay. The other steals classified documents related to terrorism then destroys them in order to deceive investigators. Which man receives the stiffer penalty.

Government fraternity members don't get treated the same as mere peons.
If anyone is interested. Quite a few of these people are former government officials. I've only perused a few so far but already there are some interesting 'names' mentioned in the bios.

G. O. B.
Laws are for little people
It is important that all who believe that justice should work for both sides...............Berger would set up a kangaroo court ala Third World banana republics, in order to exculpate himself. It's an outrage that the interests of we, the people, are being ignored, and that justice under our Nation's sacrosanct rule of law is being left out of the equation.
U.S. Magistrate Deborah Robinson (should be urged) not to accept the foolish notion that (Berger's) going back to steal documents more than once was inadvertent.......Berger's excuse that his thievery was inadvertent could and should be classified as lying to a judge......every lawyer knows that is very serious-----and if Berger filed official documents with the court attesting to this lie, that is prosecutable.
You are correct.
Our country has become what our founding fathers hoped it would not. It has become a government of the elite. The rich, the famous the powerful.
Our elected officials are no longer public servants. The public has become their servants.
Every year it gets bigger and demands more money and more power.
The Political Aristocracy make ,interpret, and enforce the laws for the common man while they themselves remain above it and totally ignore it if it is convenient, or profitable, for them or their friends and benefactors.
It is no longer a "government of the people" but a government over the people.
It will only get worse until the balloon pops.
Bumpity bump!
Because he is an untouchable. This is like asking "Why can't I see Hillary's College Thesis from Wellesley before she runs for President"??? I'm apparently not supposed to understand the hellish undercurrents that flow through Washington, though I can and do understand the B.I.S., after all these years.
Because he is a Democrat. Laws do not apply to Democrats. law.
As the distinguished Republican from Utah, one Orrien Hatch, said during the Clinton Administration when the "business dealings" of Hillary were being discused, "We can't indict a sitting First Lady".
Prior to Berger's plea, prior to his admission, -when the story first BROKE that Berger was under investigation, I said that "Nothing would come of this, that Berger is entitled to the same status as Slick, above the law and beyond reproach.
Sandy Berger need not bother with remorse or contrition, his Hallway pass has been signed, and his "punishment" will be a small symbolic gesture, the slightest nod to justice possible.
If this were a Conservative, the Moonbats would be bleeding all over the place.
Rivers of blood would gush in the streets, the black-bloc blue-staters would be marching, C-SPAN would be following the story 24/7, the NYT and LATimes would be thick with fiery op-eds.
If Dr. Condoleezza Rice had been caught stuffing Documents down her Pantyhose, the story would be a frenzy.
But since Sandy is a Democrat, he only has to wink at the Judge when the previously agreed to terms of his plea are entered and agreed to.
No jail
10K
Loss of clearance for 3 or years.
Kerry was going to make Berger his Secretary of State.
Don't bother complaining folks. Nobody cares, Liberals are above the law because they know what's BEST for America.
Who the hell are Republicans to think that Sandra Berger shouldn't be allowed to shove documents down his pants and stroll out of the National Archives?
John Deutch abused Top Secret docs too, and Clinton pardoned him.
I'll tell ya folks, it seems like the more the Republican Party comes into power, the more the Left start reinventing laws, words, History and anything else they need to reinvent to assert and maintain some semblance of relevance.
-Democrats get to make everything up on the fly.
Republicans, -if you don't like it, -you can just lay there and sweat. Because there ain't a damned thing you can do about it.
I was looking forward to 16 year era of Conservative rule.
I guess that ain't gonna happen.
If I hated America, I'd look forward to
hillary being the President so I could crap on her for four years the way the Left has attacked Bush.
But you know what?
I don't do schadenfreude, if Hillary was President, I would want her to succeed, for the good of the Nation.
Just like I wanted Slick to succeed.
I gave him my sincere support as Commander in Chief, even as he squinted, scowled, bit his lip and wagged his finger at us and lied, I supported him.
That's the difference between Cap'n TrVth and your average Leftist Liberal Democrat Socialist America-Hater.
Excuse me, if so close to this high & holy Holiday I take a moment to make the observation that Democrats suck.
My tag-line gives you the answer.
Proves that, once again, we can judge the sorry state of the state by the degree of cynicism exhibited by the citizenry.
Thanks.
My motto after the collapse of the spineless seven on the filibuster: Don't trust Republicans to do the right thing. Don't trust Democrats, period.
The GOP better get busy taking some testosterone suppliments and eatting their Wheaties to prepare for the next Supreme Court nomination. The Dems are going to pull out all the stops on this go round.
Thanks, Liz!
Another Clintonista who gets off with not so much of a day-on-the-county.....he'll be working for ole Hil' if things work out the way they (The Clintons) want.
Washington Post Thursday, September 16, 2004; Page A29 Stonebridge International, the "global strategy firm" founded by Berger, has taken on an interesting client, Gulfsands Petroleum Ltd., a private Houston-based oil and gas company. Gulfsands, along with its larger partner Devon Energy Corp. of Oklahoma City, has oil and gas exploration and development interests in Syria. And now Gulfsands is looking to Iraq.
"Stonebridge is assisting Gulfsands in organizing meetings in Washington with administration officials to discuss the company's business interests in Iraq and U.S. policy toward Syria," Stonebridge Vice Chairman H.P. Goldfield said in an e-mail response to written questions.
There was another person designated by Clinton to peruse the archives but I never caught the name. I wonder if there is a public record of the name?
