Since we are remembering the men and women of our armed forces, I thought that I would mention my dissertation topic. I am writing about USS Frank E. Evans (DD-754). On the morning of 3 June 1969 the Royal Australian Navy carrier HMAS Melbourne collided with Frank E. Evans. The forward section sank in five minutes taking 74 sailors with it. Just prior to this SEATO exercise, USS Frank E. Evans had been providing NGS fire for US and ARVN troops. The photo below shows the aft section of USS Frank E. Evans tied alongside USS Everett F. Larson.

I just graduated high school June 7, 1985, I turned 19 in July and got my first true job. In late August I started college. I remember hanging over a friend's house and he had a remote controlled BetaMax VCR, even though the control was hard wired into it, I was fascinated by it and he taped all of Live Aid onto his Beta tapes. I still hang out with my grade school buddy and we still do the same things now that we did then. B-)

The demise of the Soviet Union came in 1991 -- not 1985. You are off by SIX years.
