WASHINGTON [MENL] -- Congress has been examining the prospect of granting U.S. support to an Iranian opposition group on the State Department's terrorist list.
Congressional sources said several key House and Senate members have been discussing the removal of the Mujahadeen Khalq, or MEK, from the State Department's list of terrorist groups. They said the United States has not obtained evidence of MEK's involvement in terrorism for nearly 30 years.
''Work with the group that the regime dislikes the most,'' Raymond Tanter, co-founder of the Iran Policy Committee and former National Security Council member, said.
Tanter, a former Reagan administration official, has been lobbying Congress to support MEK. He said the Mujahadeen, a Marxist group who was harbored by the Saddam Hussein regime in Iraq, has demonstrated its effectiveness in providing accurate information of Iran's nuclear program.
No To Terrorists!
Tantor is a communist.
It doesn't change the fact!
Out of the frying pan, into the fire.
The fact is, this isn't news. There have been a few congressmen & senators sympathetic to MEK for yrs.
A few out of hundreds is meaningless.
OMFG!!! NO!!! Once a terror organization ALWAYS a terror organization. No Negotiation or reconciliation or cooperation should even be contemplated!
The WOT cannot be fought by proxy.

agreed - the Iranian people do not need THIS kind of help, and no American should consider attempting this kind of "help"
Ask Representative Curt Weldon (R-PENN).

Opposition Group Seeks Recognition and Support in Western Capitals
Members who try to leave the MKO pay a very heavy price. These testimonies paint a grim picture of what happened to members who criticized the groups leaders.

The Iranian government has a dreadful record on human rights, said Stork. But it would be a huge mistake to promote an opposition group that is responsible for serious human rights abuses.
This MEK/NCRI terrorist gang group has its own agenda and they seem to be like Ahmad Chalabi!

Notes on Raymond Tanter
Long Time Terrorist Associate
Raymond Tanter has a long history of association with the Ultra-Violent Islamic/Marxist Terrorist Group the Mujahedin-e Khalq. Tanter who is a professor emeritus at the University of Michigan has deeply involved himself in both furthering and financing groups that the US Government and other credible organizations clearly say are fronts for terrorism. Tanter is a spokesman and fundraiser for the Mujahedin-e Khalq also known as the MEK or MKO. Despite the fact that the MEK has been involved in the brutal murder of innocent men, women, and children, as well as terrorist attacks on the US Military Tanter chooses to associate himself with Mujahedin-e Khalq front organizations. If we apply President Bush's definition of Terrorism then we must conclude that Raymond Tanter is a Terrorist.
All the Iranian people would be doing, with OUR HELP, would be trading one tyrannical regime for another one. This is STUPID.
And send him to Gitmo?
"OMFG!!! NO!!! Once a terror organization ALWAYS a terror organization. No Negotiation or reconciliation or cooperation should even be contemplated!"
Just what we need. The enemy of my enemy is my friend strategy.
exactly!
Any time congress considers support for a terrorist organization, it is NOT meaningless.
