Jury Convicts Five in Federal Vote Fraud
ASSOCIATED PRESS
EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) - A federal jury Wednesday convicted the chairman of the city's Democratic Party and four others of scheming to buy votes with cash, cigarettes and liquor last November.
Prosecutors relied largely on secretly recorded audiotapes in which they say the accused could be heard talking about paying $5 per vote to get key Democrats elected.
Charles Powell Jr., 61, the city's Democratic Party chairman, was found guilty along with the city's former director of regulatory affairs and three others
I can't wait to see this on the national news...
Wow!!! This is shocking. I've gotten really used to liberal judges or juries letting them go, just like the Klintons' fundraisers who never get convicted.
Calling ABC/NBC/CBS/CNN/PSB/VOA please pick up the white phone at the courtesy phone!
I was more frightened there than I was in Beirut.
It's a massive sewer.
L
Good.
Reading it a third time is not even charming enough.
HEY, EVERYONE, TURN ON CNN HEADLINE NEWS!
Wanna guess which story is NOT being shown?
That's our problem. We're just tooo honest to think that level of Evil.....though now that you MENTION it, there ARE a few morw cases pending...
Good news soooso hard to find. this qualifies. And even better, the speed in which this went to trial. I LOVE IT!! Wish more folks got to see it here, cause it sure ain't being reported in the MSM.
"Vote Democrat!"
Jurors in the monthlong trial deliberated more than five hours before convicting Charles Powell Jr., 61, the local Democratic Party chairman, and Kelvin Ellis, 55, the city's former director of regulatory affairs, of felony conspiracy to commit vote fraud, along with Democratic precinct committee members Sheila Thomas, 31, and Jesse Lewis, 56, and City Hall worker Yvette Johnson, 46.
All of the defendants except Powell also were convicted of one count apiece of election fraud for allegedly paying at least one person to vote.
******
Prosecutors rested their case Thursday in the East St. Louis vote fraud trial after their last witness testified that an associate of the city's Democratic Party chairman gave him $7 after he voted on Nov. 2.
Emmitt Stewart, 47, of East St. Louis, said a campaign worker for Charles Powell Jr. handed him the money in an envelope after Stewart voted that morning. Stewart was one of a few residents who have testified during the three-week federal trial to receiving money on Election Day.

Maybe it is because there is a REPUBLICAN that they are pimping for some ALLEGED investigation into some real estate deal IIRC. I think it was on Brit.
Did I miss something on the incarceration penalty? I figure these guys will get off with a promise not to do it again. And we know what a dems promise is made of.
If the story was switched to say Republicans instead of Demos the media would jump on it, but when corrected the correction would be on page 24 while the media would suddenly go silent. The first story is what most people get, while corrections only reach the truly informed.
Did you forget your sarcasm tag? Although it's probably not necessary.
It's a quagmire!.....Just like Iraq, one village/town at a time. Eventually we'll win the "war on voter fraud" too and well not stop fighting till it's over!
I really like your tagline!
Guilty!
