HARTFORD, Conn. -- Republican leaders in the state Senate have called for another special session to consider legislation limiting Connecticut's eminent domain laws following its defeat in the General Assembly on Tuesday.
The proposal, offered in response to last week's U.S. Supreme Court ruling allowing New London to take homes for a private development project, was killed on a mostly 22-11 party-line vote in the Democratic-controlled Senate.
The House of Representatives, which also is run by Democrats, defeated a similar proposal 82-50.
The plans were offered as amendments to legislation that details the two-year, $31.2 billion budget and other provisions.

"Everything is going according to our plan."
The President keeps repeating it because so many people keep forgetting the reasons we are in the war.
The brain dead voters up there getting what they voted for.
His silence now makes sense.
He's thrilled.
Bush is an enemy of home ownership.
Condemn the homes of Democratic Senators by using Eminent Domain law and make public parks out of them.
Later
We thank our lucky stars that we escaped from this Taxachusettes wannabe! Richest state in the union and totally filled with 'rats. But the GOP is the party of the Rich!
Maybe Margaret Sanger was right; this country is full of morons, at least Connecticut is!
Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys has just pulled the same thing in Arlington, TX. Displacing residents of 150 homes for the sake of building a new Stadium for the Cowboys.(To be located next to Bush Stadium) Only 23 home owners have settled with Jones...the rest will be taken by ED. Of course the stadium will generate "new" tax dollars. It's for the good of the people don't ya' know.
That's not a stick. It's a SEQUOIA :)
Never forget some animals are more equal than others.
didn't know that. will look into it. thanks!
It's curious that Leiberman and Dodd have both fell off the radar screen lately.
This is going to be an awesome 2006 issue. Every candidate must be forced to take a stance on Kelo vs. New London.
Not content with taxpayer subsidies, he and his fellow owners successfully used the power of government to take land from other private citizens via eminent domain so it could be used for their own private purposes. Sound familiar?
But it gets worse. Litigation over the ballpark deal revealed documents showing that, beginning in 1990, the Texas Rangers' management which included Bush as a managing general partner conspired to use the government's power of eminent domain to further its private business interests.
And now you know the rest of the story. Bush was for this ruling by the Supremes 100 percent.
How many of these Democrats are developers on the side? Have an interest in developing? Are members of HBOA? They need to be investigated...People of CT you had better wake up.
"I did not know the mayor of New London was black until I saw her on TV last night. One state rep. from NL, also black and a Demo of course, was all in favor of eminent domain. I have to wonder why these folks are so opposed to individual rights when it comes to property."
and pics I've seen of homeowners indicate they're white - gee I wonder. . .

That's typical liberal hogwash.
The Texas Rangers have never owned the stadium in Arlington. It is owned by the city of Arlington and was approved by the voters.
The Texas Rangers rent the stadium from the city.
You need to do better research.

Cost
The revised cost of the overall project is approximately 191 million dollars. The financing was derived from 135 million dollars in bonds issued by the Arlington Sports Facilities Development Authority with the remaining equity raised through the sale or lease of luxury boxes and seat options in the new ballpark, loans guaranteed by the Rangers, the concessions contract with Sportservice and city street funds.
Annual debt service for the municipal bonds is provided by public-private sharing. That is comprised of a 3.5 million dollar rental payment from the Rangers and a one-half cent City of Arlington sales tax. The sales tax was approved in an Arlington municipal election by a 65% majority on January 19, 1991, and expires once the debt is retired.
The Rangers have a lease with the City of Arlington, and the club maintains and operates the entire facility.
Now, how did President Bush make $15 million from the deal?
Or was that his profit on the sale of his share of the team?
