Roy Moore May Run for Ala. Gov.
NewsMax ^ | 6/29/05 | Carl Limbacher

Judge Ray Moore, the central figure in the losing battle to keep the Ten Commandments posted at the Alabama State Courthouse, says he may run for Alabama governor. He also has some tough words to say about the two Supreme Court decisions on the posting of the Decalogue in public places.

Appearing on Hannity and Colmes Monday, Moore said, "There is a lot of talk. I've been asked many times to run, and I am seriously considering it. I'm praying about it, and I'll make my decision sometime in the fall."

He added that God had opened the door for him to run, and that he would pray about going through it.

Hannity asked, "Do you want to run? Is this something you want to do, you think?" Moore replied, "Well, it's something I think that the state needs, but the question is, is that what I'm to do? Is that what God would have me do?"

Earlier he told Alan Colmes that the real issue in the two court decisions "was about whether or not the state can acknowledge God, which is the basic issue in this case in which the court still does not address."

Noting that this court avoids the definition of the word "religion," Judge Moore explained, "Religion is defined by our forefathers, who recognized God in higher law. And they did so for a purpose. It was because they believed that God gave us that religious liberty. In fact, as late as 1946, the United States Supreme Court - and I have the case right here - recognized that God gives us that religious liberty."

When Colmes noted that one of the court's decisions said in historical context, it made sense to have religious representation as part of a larger display, Moore argued, "Historically, we did acknowledge God, but not just historically. The First Amendment prohibits the federal government from interfering with the state's rights to acknowledge God. And we can acknowledge God today as a sovereign over the state."

Amen to that.

I once thought that Judge Moore could unseat Governor Riley in the primary, but now I am not so sure. Not that many in AL or elsewhere rallied behind Judge Moore when he fought for the Ten Commandments. The GOP establishment totally opposed him and will always do so.

I've always had the impression that when you got down to it, Roy Moore is really only about Roy Moore.

Not at all: if Roy Moore were only about Roy Moore, he would have quickly ceded to the national tyrant in Montgomery. He has a backbone, and some say he is only about Roy Moore. Now Trent Lott, that may be someone who is only out for himself, we shall see.

Is that an Editor error, or a posting error?

No doubt. He's not GOP material. He has a spine and holds Constitution above party.

It's NewsMax's error, I didn't see it when I was posting or I would have corrected it.

He also said that God gave us our rights...by denying God as the black robes have by the recent and past rulings....the state takes the place of God and ALL OUR RIGHTS ARE NOW IN GRAVE JEOPARDY!!!

If Judge Roy Moore ran for governor in Texas I'd vote for him so fast...this man actually gets & understands it, as the Founders. If he'd lived in the day when our Founders lived...he'd be known today by each and everyone of us as a great man.

Unfortunately, Judge Moore would have had to live in TX for five years before he could run for governor. And I would imagine that he is too conservative for TX.

"I'll make my decision sometime in the fall"

Oh, please. The whole "10 Commandments" stunt was specifically to set himself up for this run -- the only reason he'd pass it up is if he's still drawing high enough speaking fees that he'd rather just continue to make money than run for office (especially if he's not 100% sure he'd win).

Judge Roy Moore is the kind of American America needs. Thank God he's not secular and understands the depth of our Founders thinking. America needs many more men like Judge Roy Moore. Secular thinking will not hack it in the coming years.

Tell me why. Is it possible that the idea comes from the Old media? Is it possible you have been a victim of an agenda?
