National Clergy Council president Rev. Rob Schenck walked out on Rev. Billy Graham during the second night of his Queens, New York crusade on Saturday, after Graham yielded the stage to Bill Clinton and suggested his wife Hillary should be president.
"I was stunned and appalled," Rev. Schenck told the Christian Wire Service, saying that he left Flushing Meadows Park while Graham was still complimenting the Clintons.
"This was a deliberate, cunning, purely political move by the Clintons to divide the Evangelical vote and assure Hillary of a victory in '08," said Schenck, a minister with the Evangelical Church Alliance and a missionary to elected officials.
Rev. Schenck said he has considered Rev. Graham his role model for over 25 years, explaining that he had traveled from Washington, DC, to New York City this weekend to witness what may be the legendary preacher's last crusade.
But after he saw the Clintons exploit the aging Graham, he couldn't bear to stay and hear him preach, he told CWS.
After the two top Democrats managed to secure onstage seating, the ex-president praised Graham for his civil rights work during the 1950's, adding "I've loved him ever since. God bless you, friend."
Rev. Graham returned the compliment, calling Mr. and Mrs. Clinton "wonderful friends" and "a great couple." He then quipped that the former president should become an evangelist and allow "his wife to run the country."
Exactly. The key word in this entire report is "quipped". Rev. Graham is a wonderful blessing to those who accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, but he is also an imperfect man (who, btw, has a sense of humor). He has been spiritual adviser to any one who called upon him, without regard to politics, and has personal relationships of varying degrees with all of them, aside from Truman who called him a fake. It would not be in character for Rev. Graham to not look upon the Clintons as loved by God, despite their sins.
Bummer.
I gave him a few choice words as I left the church building that day and never went back.
He read them the riot act (Matthew 23).
Christ didn't avoid the vilest of sinners, but he didn't endorse them for president either. What did He do, He said "go and sin no more." I wish Hilarity would take the "go" seriously and depart.
Yawn.
Let's use logic:
The Lodge is a fraternal organization that distinguishes itself from other fraternal organizations by its use of specific initiation rituals and organizational guidelines. Those rituals and guidelines are based upon certain core assumptions like Deism.
Unless a person believes that the rituals of Masonry are divine or magical or otherwise imbued with special power - which you may believe, but I doubt it - then the Lodge can be analyzed according to its principles and the question can be asked: are these principles true or false.
The answer is, they are false.
And just an historical footnote: while Washington the Mason was presiding over the United States he helped create, Robespierre the Mason was sending thousands of political prisoners to die at the guillotine.
If the Lodge wants to claim America as its child, it also has to accept the Terror as well.
Exactly.
We know how you felt. :(
Oh well. There's a lot of churches out there.
.....
No, Christ taught us to love each other as He loved. But what Billy Graham did was give very, very public support to an accused rapist and sexual attacker, and in the same breath he then gave tacit endorsement to his maniacal wife for President in 2008.
Remember, the bible also says this:
Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.
Ephesians 5:11
Amen sister.
You are now long-past credibility and usefulness. Retire, leave the public spotlight, go far back up into the hills, And Stay Away.
Ass-kissing-up to the clintons was a bad move and will dog you the rest of your days - don't try explaining it, don't try apologizing for it.
"pathetic old showboat."
Why the hate?
I'd say "irritation" and "disgust" with BG's being cute about B. Clintons "appeal with the ladies":(I don't see no ladies, do you?) would characterize it.
It's just impossible to escape the poison of too much attention and adulation. It ruins everyone it happens to. We were never meant to be "gods" of any kind, and celebrity gives people the delusion of divinity.
Lead anyone to Christ lately?
Graham was gifted with startling good looks and charisma. Maybe he has to fight them off, too? He sure is quick to make excuses for a tomcat.
I cant believe I even need to say this.
Billy Grahams life is dedicated to the Lord. He has brought more people to an understanding of Gods judgement of sin and saving grace then you or I could count. He is a man to his wife and his children. He is an inspiration to millions of people to focus their lives on Jesus. He is a messenger delivering Christs message.
Your petty comments on how he behaves or handles himself around the Clintons is extremely immature and demonstrates (in this instance) your inability to see the forest through the trees.
Who is your pastor? As people enter his church does he stand there and point out sin and condemn them on the spot? That must be quite the welcome you receive every Sunday.
