Lincoln prevented our nation from probably having 200 or 300 states. The south would have come back into the Union, once allowances were made for states rights over federal dominion. Other countries would have joined, if they knew that they could get out - albeit, with difficulty, if they were badly treated. by the other nations.

The middle of the country is going to be treated badly someday by the dominate urban area. Food will be the catalyst.

As Freepers we understand history and realize that George Washington should have won this hands down. With that being said, I am thrilled that Reagan won and beat out any RAT that was up there. Lincoln was a great Pres, and I think that Reagan is going to take his place in the top tier of US Presidents from history.

I wanted to BARF when Ron-not a junior-was put on to speak for his father. He spat on his father's memory when he spoke at the RAT convention IMHO.

I agree. I adore Reagan, but I wouldn't rank him above Washington and Lincoln, that's for sure!

Yep. I think anyone who complains about this is silly. Of course RWR wasn't the greatest American. I don't even believe there is such a thing. It is the fact that it takes so MANY "Great Americans" to make her what she is...that makes the country so great! We didn't need Queen Victoria or Napoleon to make us great.—We needed about a million really decent people.

This thing WAS a popularity contest, and as I understand it couldn't be rigged like most internet polls. So it's a pretty accurate reflection of where people stand.

What does it mean? They're headed in our direction. I like that and it seems like a pretty big win for our ideas!

Why do I have a feeling we won't see much coverage of this now that RWR has been picked for the #1 spot?

Probably because you won't... they will talk about the aquittal of their hero Michael Jackson instead...

Right. Washington, Lincoln and then Reagan. Sheesh. But I'll settle for a Reagan win anyday. :-)

Lincoln is 10x the American Reagan was..

With malice toward none, each was special for his time. The magnitude of the accomplishments of each is incalculable. For Lincoln, he did more than crush the rebellion which would have doomed our nation to roughly half its historic potentiality. He preserved the union and forestalled what would have been a perpetual, heated rivalry.
For Reagan, he struggled against a massive media animus and a fellow-travelling opposition party to crush the communist menace and the ominous threat of global thermonuclear war. Hard to compare, but, due to the sheer magnitude and universality of the stakes, I voted for Reagan.
With charity for all.

"FDR"

I know people hate him, my mom hated him, but I always felt he did a good job leading the country through a very bad time. And hey! he wanted private accounts for soc. security too.

"The only exception being their recent list of 250 nominees for best movie scores--outstanding list."

Wow, I never even heard of this. You should do one of those nice chatty weekend threads on it. I really like those!

I just watched "Collateral" with hubby the other night. I thought it had a really good soundtrack.

I find it noticeable that there are NO military (well, except for Washington) on the list...what about Eisenhower? Bradley? Patton? Nimitz?

Audie Murphy?

Much as I LOVE Ronald Reagan(and think he is a truly great American, not Sean Hannity's little wuss comments on his show), this just shows that Americans do not know their history and think what happened 20 years ago is a long time....

Do they even KNOW any other great Americans to vote for?

Brett Favre shoulda won it. But I guess Reagan was a good pick.

I agree. Favre has done more for pairs ice skating than RR ever could have done. Such a shame. When does Favre do his screen test?
