I know this has probably been posted a kajillion times and FReep'ed so silly it glows but my FR search could not find it here so - here we go...

AOL and Discovery Channel have been doing a contest to find who people think the greatest American is for some months now and it ends tonight. Ronald Reagan is in the running for #1 and I for one would like to see him get it.

How can you vote? First go to: AOL's Greatest American Voting Page and click on the VOTE button under Reagan's picture. Please note you can vote THREE TIMES and PLEASE DO SO!

Next, get on EVERY PHONE YOU HAVE and call 1-866-669-3104 again THREE TIMES. Finally, if your cellphone has text messaging capabilities send a text message to 66931 with just the word REAGAN as the message content.

Sorry admins if this is the 1000'th of these posts, but it is down to the wire tonight and just in case people forgot and especially since I could not find a similar post I went for it.

Finally, please make sure to let everyone you know to do the same before 6 PM Pacific, 8 PM Central, and 9 PM Eastern TONIGHT Sunday, 6/26/2005!

TOPICS: Your Opinion/Questions
KEYWORDS: activism; aol; freepem; greatestamerican; vote

As much as I admire Reagan, he is not the greatest American.

#1 has to be George Washington, followed closely by Abraham Lincoln.

Sorry, but my vote will definitely be George Washington as well. Even though I was only 16 at the time, I still have a awful taste in my mouth with that 1986 Amnesty fiasco for illegal aliens.

ANYONE who pi$$es the liberals off as much as Reagan has my vote in this - regardless of my personal opinions. :)

Who doesn't think it'll be the plagiarist MLK? One wonders how forgotten he'd be if but for an assassin's bullet.

BUMP...even if it has been posted before, thanks for posting again.

I love Washington and Lincoln...but the liberals will be voting for everyone but Reagan...and especially ML King.

Reagan deserves this recognition and I voted several times for him....it is fun to pretend to be a Democrat and vote multiple times...and get by with it!!

As much as I liked Reagan, I have to agree. If it were not for George Washington, and the men who led the fight to free us from British Rule, Reagan wouldn't have had a country for which to be President.

Just curious... Why Lincoln? What he did was probably illegal. He determined that once a state enters the union it is not free to leave. Freeing the slaves was something of an excuse used but not the moral justification for the war between the states. If he hadn't been assassinated he might be looked at with less fondness.

Washington has to be #1 because he was a good General and was rewarded for his efforts by being the first CIC? That hardly rates considering other men--not him--defined our nation by actually crafting the founding documents.

I voted for Reagan because America was in crisis of morale, evaporated trust in its leadership, crisis in economics and faced an enemy worse than the Islamo fascists we battle today. He got Americans back on their feet and feeling the spirit of Americanism once again. He survived an assassin's bullet. Got the economy moving. Rightly defied communism with the clarity of purpose that ensured its destruction rather than continued co-existence. He was America.

If the South had been allowed to secede the world would be a very different place.

The United States of America would not be a superpower, just another country in the second tier of nations along with France.

The Confederate States of America would be a third-rate country in the same league as Brazil or south Africa.
