As his final American revival meeting continued Saturday, a fragile Billy Graham (search) was met onstage by former President Clinton, who honored the evangelist, calling him "a man I love."
Clinton spoke briefly before Graham's sermon and recalled how the man known as America's pastor had refused to preach before a segregated audience in Arkansas decades ago when that state was in a bitter fight over school desegregation.
"I was just a little boy and I'll never forget it," said Clinton, who was joined by his wife, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (search). "I've loved him ever since. God bless you, friend."
Graham called the Clintons "wonderful friends" and "a great couple," quipping that the former president should become an evangelist and allow "his wife to run the country."
Graham, 86, then launched into a short sermon that was interupted by applause five times. Organizers estimated 80,000 people had come to the crusade at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens about 20,000 more than the opening night Friday. The rally ends Sunday.
The evangelist is suffering from fluid on the brain, prostate cancer and Parkinson's disease. He uses the walker due to a pelvic fracture and is largely confined to his home in Montreat, N.C. He had said previously that the rally "will be the last in America, I'm sure."

We have to give slack to Billy. But..."running the country," She'd do for our country what she did for the Arkansas school system!

Astute observation.
I'm confident the media outlet's will do their very best to give Clinton's brief speech a lot of face time over the airwaves, with the shot of Rev. Graham "proudly" looking on in the background.
I'm sure that Rev. Grahams comments about the couple will be played over and over again.
Double standards and hypocrisy are what they do best. And yes, I meant to be redundant in order to emphasize the point.

I was there tonight, (Saturday night). I nearly barfed when ole Bill got up and talked about the "school segregation" and Billy Graham came to town and didn't want to preach to a "segregated" group. Then he babbled on about the first crusade he went to with BG preaching and then how he later took old Hillary to a crusade.
BG was good. It was worth trip. It'll be the last time I see him on this earth. Of course Schummer spoke and Bloomberg. I didn't notice allot of applause when any of the Democrats spoke and not much for Bloomberg when he spoke, at least in the section we were sitting in.

Definitely both. Bringing Madonna and Bono into a sermon along with Hillary and Bill in person.
I think I want to get sick again and again.
Although what might have made it worse was if the Clintons had come forward and accepted Jesus, hands in the air, crying, mascara running, and then made every media circuit in the world to discuss their born-again state.
Well, it does say that the show, er, uh, revival, lasts a few more days.

It'll be the last time I see him on this earth. Too bad you can't say the same for BC.

Clinton on stage with Rev. Graham is nothing short of Blasphemy. The truth is, Clinton is on stage. Period.

You echo my thoughts...I find this with many, they glorify the messenger and not God....I do believe this man has inspired many to come to know the Lord...

"Graham has preached to more than 210 million people in 185 countries. He has been sought out by U.S. presidents and leaders worldwide and, more than any other religious figure, has come to represent the American evangelical movement."
He's been doing this for over 50 years.
Simply an incredible CHRISTIAN!
He's a worldwide treasure.

HILARIOUS!......and quite in keeping with a FReeper bearing the name "plaintalk!"
BRAVO! Well said! It's funny. "Clinton & Swaggert" would make a great travelling red light road show act.
Thanks for your witty comment!

Those people would have tried to upstage Christ Himself on the day of His resurrection.

Oh, BG for sure. But wouldn't you like to be a fly on the pearly gates when BC meets St. Peter and tries to lie his way into heaven?

"What a shameful, sad end to a ministry that started with such fire and promise."
You're right. It really was a shameful thing to do. If Billy Graham has lost a few of his marbles, you would at least THINK that his son, Franklin, might have steered dear old dad away from hosting these reprobates on "his" stage. What an utterly dreadful message that sent. What an embarrassing way to end his evangelizing career.
He should have quit while he was ahead, because I really believe that a lot of evangelicals are going to be very upset about this.
Thanks for your comments.

Those people would have tried to upstage Christ Himself on the day of His resurrection. "Well, heh heh, JC, it's like this...when I was a little boy in Hope, Arkansas, I knew that you'd be coming back for me. Then I remember telling my wife about you, and we both dedicated our lives, our very beings, to making this world a better place. For the little people. 'Cause I know how you LOVE the little people."
Geez, I am making myself sick.

Graham's technique has always been to sidestep politics and current polarizing issues. I knew Graham had invited the Clintons to this Crusade, but I didn't know it would be to this extent.
I think Graham was being a gentleman, but I think he should have left the politics out of it, as he has during the preceding years.
To: andie74
Ole Bill is still as dysfunctional as ever. He might be "saved" but not a good example. He had an opportunity to make a positive difference and blew it. I wondered when BG sought him out, Bill, if he was trying to have him finish his life as a better example. No doubt Bill has charisma. Bill could still make a positive difference because of who he was. Till you take your last breathe - you can turn around and serve Him. Having said all that, I'm still diametrically opposed to ole Bill's political ideology etc..
Old Bill might very well believe in God but doesn't allow Him to direct his life. There are allot of folks out there like that - carries around a Bible, goes to church on Sunday but M-Sat. doesn't live it in any way shape or form.
