I got this as an e-mail and felt it should be put on the boards immediately. It is a fairly long read, but fascinating.

It's horrifying to think about. But knowledge is power. This could save lives, of God forbid . . .

Eat your lunch in a bank vault every day.

Oh yeah, and bring along a spare pair of glasses.

That would suck. Talk about a HAZMAT and everything else imaginable in the fire service nightmare if I was a firefighter there.

Won't have to worry about SCOTUS making any more stupid rulings.

I would grieve the loss of the Smithsonian, the Archives, and the Library of Congress...

After yesterday's Supreme Court ruling, ask me if I *care* whether Washington D.C. survives a nuclear attack?

It might be best just to scrap this whole "America" thing and start over.

And here is what happens next, if I had anything to do with it:

Tasking orders are sent to an Ohio class SSBN somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean.

Within 15 minutes 24 Trident SLBM's are headed to the Middle East.

Every Muslim city of over 100,000 people is incinerated with a MIRV warhead.

Every day for the next 5 days a similar atomic strike is launched on the survivors and the battle-assesed remnants of the Muslim world.

P.S. If the Muslims KNEW this would happen and BELIEVED we would do it, they would deliver Ali Kahn of Pakistan and Bin Laden's corpse and all of their followers to us post haste.

Almost feels like someone's preparing us for an inevitability they know can't be stopped.

And in contrast to the swift federal response to stabilize the financial markets after 9/11, the Treasury and other key agencies may be too badly damaged and decimated to intervene quickly.

No Federal intervention could save the markets after a nuclear terrorist attack. Current market levels reflect wild optimism on stilts - any sort of successful nuclear event will trigger a horrific worldwide depression.

Not new info, but informational for those who have not done the research. You also might want to check out the Nuclear Blast Mapper

I gave packages of potassium iodide to all of my friends and family as stocking stuffers for Christmas a few years back, they all think I am a little crazy, but, oh well...

It's just predicting another doomsday scenario unless we fund more socialized medicine.

Well, at least the IRS building buys the farm.

Nice article, but could be summed up thusly: if the bomb goes off in D.C., bad things happen.

"Assume every line of defense against nuclear terrorism is breached: "

Considering how criminally easy it was for 15 Saudis to fly planes into buildings, this is an easy assumption to make.

Well, THERE'S a silver lining to the mushroom cloud.

Months before 9-11 my local newspaper printed a letter to the editor in which I suggested relocating our nations capital to the heartland for protective and political reasons. The heartland is the demographic center of our nation and would be the easiest to protect.

This assessment of what a nuclear attack could accomplish gives credence to the suggestion. We cannot hope to protect an eighteenth century city from twenty-first century perils.

For political reasons, I would also like to have our Congressional delegation closer so they may better serve their constituency. Presently, the bastion of liberalism is the sole region receiving this exclusive treatment.
